Being successful isn't always about getting rich or winning awards, it's also about personal achievement. If you had to design the perfect day, what would it look like?
Sitting on a bench by the lake writing your memoirs? Picture yourself climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and taking a deep breath after reaching the top? Or do you just want to play with your kids all day?
Your reasons for wanting to learn how to succeed in life will be personal. Your partner, parents, and friends may have their own definition of success. But their definition is not for you.
How to Be Successful in Life
Whatever makes you feel successful and happy is what you should focus on while learning the art of being successful.
1. Stop looking for the silver bullet.
The trick is that you have to work every day for years. This is not a Facebook ad hack. Or a magic conference Rp. 30 millions. But no matter how many times people tell you, they will continue to dig for the secret answer. Why? Because you don't want to make it work.
You want to become successful overnight. It will not happen. So if I were you, I'd start creating.
2. Start Setting Better Goals
‘My goal is to make a lot of money.’ And I wonder why it hasn’t worked. Your aim is not feasible. And to be honest, it's not very motivating. Money is great and everything, but it won't satisfy you. What is your big life goal?
For you, success could mean taking action to clean up the world's oceans or saving animals from extinction. So how do we do it? Well, you need money and that's where your money's goals come into play. How much money is needed to fix this problem?
Buy a calculator, contact a few nonprofits, and start crunching numbers. Then use that exact number as your target. And add the exact date. You now have specific goals, milestone dates, and goals.
3. stop Validation
If you're looking for a way to succeed in life, you won't find it in the people around you. Otherwise, everyone around you is a huge success. Your mom, dad, best friend, spouse or dog doesn't have to approve of your business idea.
Live life your way. Don't seek confirmation from others that you are on the right track. Do you want to know if you are on the right track? Am I living the life I want? If the answer is yes, then you are on the right track.
If the answer is no, there are things you need to change. Don't let outsiders cloud your thinking. People always think they know what's best for them. But only you know what it is. Believe in yourself a little bit more and you will realize that you know what you are doing.
4. Start Making Your Dreams Come True
Being successful in life is not a magic moment when everything falls into place. It's about the little moments in between. When you are happy. Moments that completely immerse you.
The truth is that even if you are currently between 9 and 5, you can still experience those moments. If your goal is to run an online business, there are evenings and weekends.
Maybe you want to become a digital nomad, and while working overseas, you can talk to your boss about working remotely for three weeks. I know what you're thinking you want everything and you want it now.
But the truth is, you never really know if it's what you want or think you want unless you take that baby step. Whether you're a 9 to 5 or not, you can start to find a plan for how to be successful.
I'm not saying stay between 9 and 5 if you're miserable. I'm just saying that 9 to 5 isn't always the only cause of your own frustration or unhappiness.
5. Stop Looking for Mentors
There's nothing wrong with mentoring. It can actually be great for your career. But most people don't want accompaniment, they just want someone to do it all for them. Entrepreneurship and success is about taking ownership.
You talk a lot about wanting freedom, but ask for a lot of feedback regarding your first store design. But what you need to realize is that the great thing about entrepreneurship is that you can build your business the way you want.
And when you get a mentor to help you make decisions, it's basically like having a boss overseeing your work. You start to lose the freedom you so desire.
If you constantly have people guiding you on your journey, your wins are not your wins and your losses are not your losses.
If you don't feel like you are winning or losing, you will never say, 'Oh my God! I DO IT!'. And you don't learn from your mistakes because they weren't there in the first place. You will make bad decisions, but you will also make good ones.
You don't need a mentor to teach you how to be successful, especially if your goal is to live life on your own terms.
6. Start Building Your Skills
You don't have to be the best from day one. But you can start building on it. If you consistently spend time each day investing in your growth, you will be amazed at how you will grow a year from now.
If you run an online store, take the time to learn and test different marketing hacks. Stick with it for a year and you will find that you have built up your sales. If you're a writer, write every day for a year.
As you try out different writing styles and produce consistent content, you'll find that you've started to build up a loyal following. Building professionalism takes effort. And your skills will help you find answers on how to succeed.
7. Stop Hindering Yourself
Setbacks, bad days, failures, delays: what do they have in common? They are all in your head. I'm so used to obstacles that my immediate reaction is to always find a way around them. I do weird things to jump over hurdles.
Yesterday I had a bad day and in the middle of the day I realized that I didn't sleep well the night before and I started laughing. Why? Because I realized that the solution to my problem is easy. All I had to do was go to bed early that night. The next day?
Bad days never seem to happen. Your success can never be hindered by outside forces. There's always a solution. And the solution almost always comes from removing the mental blocks in your head. If there's something you need to change about yourself, change your perspective.
8. Start Doing
You can't be successful if you don't do anything. There are no significant monetary rewards just for attendance. You have to invest time and energy to create something. After all, the most successful people are creators.
Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook. Jeff Bezos created Amazon. Sara Blakely created Spanx. And if you dedicate your life to being a creator, you will know what it takes to be successful. But it takes time and steady effort.
I know it's easier to turn on Netflix and shut down my brain after work, but the result I want to see comes from leaving my brain on after a few hours. By surpassing those around you.
