After a few seconds, a call-to-action button, such as Buy Now or Learn More, takes the user to the advertiser's website.

Creating in-feed ads is a simple process that can be done through the TikTok Ads Manager, which offers several ad placement options such as detail page, story, post-roll, and in-feed, depending on the campaign objective You.

Another advertising option is Spark Ads. These ads are designed to be displayed in full-screen format to grab viewers' attention instantly and increase brand awareness and reach.

Spark Ads offer a variety of creative features, including video, image, and text elements, making them a great choice for businesses looking to reach their audience in creative ways. Businesses can also run hashtag challenges to reach their target audience.

TikTok Ads Specifications

Time to brush up on some skills. TikTok (and other social media platforms) have several requirements that must be met in order for a video to be published as an advertisement. The full list can be found in the TikTok Help Center, but here are some of the highlights:

  • Video resolution: Must be at least 540 x 960 pixels, 960 x 540 pixels, or 640 x 640 pixels.
  • Duration: Up to 60 seconds (but TikTok recommendation is 9-15 seconds)
  • File type: .mpeg, .mov, .mp4, .avi or .3gp
  • Aspect ratio: 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9

How to Make TikTok Ads from Scratch

There are two options for creating campaigns in TikTok Ads Manager.

  • simple ad
  • custom ad

The special version has more options like using bidding strategies or creating ad groups. However, it is intended for experienced marketers who are familiar with this setup. For small businesses/startups, the simplified version is a better choice.

To create your first ad, open the TikTok Ads Manager and select Simple Mode when prompted.

Step 1: Create a Business Account

To use TikTok Ads Manager, you must have a business account on the platform. The good news is that switching to a business account is free and easy. Open TikTok and tap Settings & Privacy > Account Management > Switch to Brand Account.

This will give you access to TikTok's Ads Manager, as well as valuable analytics such as the best time to post and a link to your bio.

Step 2: Integrate with Shopify

If you have a Shopify store, install the TikTok app to access the auto ad creation options. If you are in multiple countries, you can also launch the Shopping tab from your TikTok profile.

Step 3: Open Ads Manager

Although the TikTok app is designed for mobile use, we recommend using desktop Ads Manager to manage ads. Just go to ads.tiktok.com and log in with your TikTok Ads Manager account.

Step 4: Set Your Advertising Goals

Select Simple Mode and select one of four options: Increase traffic, Drive community engagement, Get customer leads, or Get website conversions. Each option is tailored to specific campaign goals.

Step 5: Choose Your Audience

Choose an automatic audience or adjust parameters such as gender, age, language and location to determine who will see your ad. You can also target users based on interests and behavior such as pets, clothes or gadgets.

Step 6: Set a budget and schedule

Set your daily advertising budget, starting at $5 per day, and choose how long your campaign will run. You can also select “No end date” if you want the campaign to run indefinitely.

Step 7: Create Ad

Choose an existing TikTok or upload a new TikTok. Write a description and create a call-to-action button like Shop Now. Make sure your ad complies with TikTok's technical guidelines for vertical video ads and matches the look and feel of the platform.

Step 8: Submit

After clicking Submit, your ad will be reviewed before publishing. Monitor your results and optimize for your next campaign.

How much do TikTok Ads cost?

TikTok ads are becoming increasingly popular for businesses, but the cost of advertising on the platform depends on your content strategy and a variety of factors.

According to various sources, the average starting price for a TikTok ad campaign is Rp. 150 thousand per 1,000 views, with a minimum limit of Rp. 7.5 million per campaign.

However, your actual CPM may vary depending on ad placement, bidding strategy and target audience used for your campaign.
