Apollo City Review, Attractive and Safe Electric Scooter for Travel

The Apollo City has the turn signal feature we've wanted on an electric scooter for a long time. If you've ever ridden a standing scooter and tried to reach and give directions to a car, you know how wobbly things can get.
Turn signals aren't the only reason Apollo City is an attractive e-scooter. It also includes a 500 watt motor, dual suspension and an app to customize the performance of the scooter. However, at a price of Rp. 22 million, it's not cheap, so you should read other Apollo City reviews before deciding to buy.
Pricing and Availability
The second-generation Apollo City goes on sale in late March 2022 and is expected to ship in June 2022. Available in two versions. The model I tested, the Apollo City, has one 500W motor and costs Rp. 22 million.
Apollo City Pro has dual 500W motors and is priced at Rp. 27 million. Additional differences between the two models are shown in the chart below.
Apollo City design
The Apollo City looks like a large version of the company's current Apollo Air scooter. It definitely looks nicer than the original Apollo City, and no longer seems like it's made from the same parts you'd find on a regular electric scooter.
The cable bundle is wrapped around the company's other scooters and is made to look like part of the Borg collective was threaded through the City's body to create a much sleeker shape.
The Apollo City deck tapers smoothly from front to back, and the scooter's digital readout is now integrated into the handlebars instead of a separate console. The display shows your speed, estimated battery life and riding mode.
It's not the largest screen, but it provides all the basic information you need if you don't want to use the scooter with your phone.
On the right handlebar is the throttle, along with the power button and another button that activates the right turn signal. On the left handlebar are the mode dial (which switches between the scooter's three riding modes) and the left turn signal.
On the left there is a thumb lever which activates the scooter's regenerative braking system, but the scooter can also be stopped using the two handbrakes connected to the dual drum brakes. It is a kind of system of belts and suspenders.
At the rear of the Apollo City deck, there are two large turn signals on each side, which glow orange when activated. this is great I wish the lights were also on the front of the deck so oncoming traffic knows you want to turn. The Glion Balto's turn signal was much smaller, but wrapped around both sides of the deck.
Apollo City is designed for use with smartphones, but the company could put more thought into how to attach the smartphone to the scooter. Apollo sent me a third party phone mount that I attached to my handlebar. That works fine, but I thought there might be a more elegant solution.
Apollo City also uses a slightly finicky locking mechanism. To lock the downtube when the scooter is retracted you need to lift the tab on the scooter deck and then remove the hook of the downtube which looks like the hook used by navy jets to land on ships parent.
Apollo City uses self-healing 20 x 3.5 inch puncture resistant tires that can handle spikes up to 2 inches. Orange paint is embedded in the spring suspension system which adds style (two at the rear and one at the front).
Apollo City performance
The Apollo City's powerful motor and full suspension take it smoothly through suburban roads at a comfortable 25 mph on flat terrain. The potholes rolled over easily and the scooter was powerful enough to climb some pretty steep hills.
But if I lived in a busy city, I'd go for the dual motor version. But I accidentally hit a nail to test the tire for puncture resistance. The second-generation Apollo City did not have height-adjustable handlebars.
I also like having a turn signal light, but it would be great if I could activate both with one hand. For example activating the right turn signal when turning right is near.
However, after completing the turn, I had to take my thumb off the accelerator to turn off the turn signal. The Glion Balto turn signal switch is located on the left handlebar, making it easier to control the scooter and turn signals simultaneously.
Another note on turn signals: As I've found, even with turn signals, it's always wise to pay a lot of attention, as cars can't always see or obey them.
Battery Life and Range
Apollo says the City scooter's 48v/13.5Ah battery should provide up to 25 miles of range. I haven't fully tested it, but for someone my height (190 pounds, 6 feet) and riding in hilly areas, I'd estimate the range to be around 20 miles, maybe a little not enough.
It all depends on how you ride the scooter and where you ride it.
Apollo City app
Within the Apollo app, you can make several adjustments to improve the performance of your scooter. For starters, you can switch between riding modes (Eco, Normal, Sport), each of which limits the scooter's top speed.
You can also change the riding mode using the controls on the handlebars, which is actually easier. The app also allows you to set the overall top speed of the scooter. I change to full speed very quickly.
Using your phone's GPS, you can use this app to track your trips, and this serves as a large dashboard displaying your current speed and battery life traveling.
Conclusion
Among the best electric scooters, the 2nd generation Apollo City has a number of characteristics that make it stand out. With a price of Rp. 22 million, this is the highest in the e-scooter market, but has features that justify the price. The app that lets you customize a smooth and powerful ride, regenerative brakes and performance.
At 57 pounds, the Apollo City is pretty heavy, so apartment dwellers might prefer a model lighter ones like the Unagi Model One, which is heavy and costs a lot less than the Kota Apollo. However, this model is not as powerful and does not have any kind of suspension.
The Segway Ninebot Kickscooter Max also weighs just 40 pounds and offers more range (but less power) than the Apollo City. However, this model does not have turn signals, suspension or an application to adjust the use of the scooter.
