With a price of Rp. 3.4 million, the price is slightly more expensive than other youth scooters. But it offers premium features like underdeck lighting and waterproof electronics. The Zing E10 is suitable for beginners and intermediate riders.

Design of the Segway Ninebot eKickscooter Zing
With a sleek gray body, blue racing stripes and color-changing underdeck LED lights, the Ninebot Zing E10 is a sleek scooter. “I love the lighting and wish there was more color,” says Mia.
The scooter has a long deck and handlebars that measure 33.5 inches from the top of the deck, making it best for riders in the 4'3″-5'3″ height range. The Segway is able to pack an impressive 6 miles of range and a powerful motor into a very light 18.7 pound device.
Unlike the Razor E100, the Ninebot Zing E10 can be folded for convenient storage and easy portability when not in use. "I like that it's foldable, so it's easy to carry around." she said.
However, significant pressure is required to release the foot-operated 'fold pedal' button on the frame. After several attempts, Mia couldn't apply enough pressure to fold the scooter.
Even unlocking was difficult for my grown dad but over time it became easy enough for Mia to do it. Thankfully, it's relatively easy for Mia to open it and get it back into riding position.
Green, yellow and red battery indicators are displayed on the side of the scooter to let the rider know how much power is left.
Segway Ninebot eKickscooter Zing Setup
Assembly of the Ninebot E10 is very simple and takes less than 5 minutes. In fact, there are only two screws to tighten during the process. Upon inspection, the scooter appeared to be in very good condition. It is very sturdy and there are no loose parts after assembly.
It is ready to use after 4 hours of charging time. Despite its great features and easy assembly, instructions on how to get started with the Ninebot Zing E10 are sorely lacking and very disappointing. The manual says "Activate the scooter before the first ride."
But it doesn't tell you how to do that. It is not enough to start the scooter first. Looking around the scooter, there is a little QR code sticker on the handlebar that says 'scan to activate', but the code doesn't work even with two different code readers.
I went online looking for answers and it's clear I'm not alone. There are entire discussion threads dedicated to figuring out how to get started. I finally found some of the instructions in the FAQ section of the Amazon Segway Ninebot Zing E10 page and finally activated it.
What I didn't realize is that once enabled, the initial speed is limited to 6.2 mph even when switching between riding modes. Mia is quite frustrated because it's so slow. It seemed to be corrupted so I turned it off and tried again after an hour.
This time the Ninebot E10 was at full capacity and Mia was able to go at 10 MPH with a big smile on her face. Why the user guide doesn't include activation instructions is beyond me. For reference, here are the official Segway activation instructions:
- Power On: When you turn on the E10, the buzzer sounds and the indicator light flashes. Until activated, the vehicle will initially stay at 3.1 mph.
- Activate: Press the accelerator and brake pedals simultaneously until you hear two beeps. Then take your foot off the gas and brake pedals. When activated, the alarms and lights stop and the speed limit is set to 6.2 MPH.
- Restart: Press and hold the power button to restart the E10 to turn it off, then press it again to turn it on.
Performance of the Segway Ninebot eKickscooter Zing
Now is the time to witness the power of this e-scooter activated and fully operational. The Zing E10 has thumb-operated throttle control and two braking options. You can use the standard foot brake or the EBS energy recovery handbrake which recharges the battery while slowing the scooter.
Users can switch between three driving modes. Turbo, Cruise or Safety. Top speed in turbo mode is 10 mph, controlled by the throttle. Cruise mode is a hybrid scooter mode where the speed is determined by the speed when the scooter is kicked with a maximum speed of 10 MPH.
Safe mode for beginners with a maximum throttle speed of 6.2 MPH. Each mode has a unique underdeck LED light display that can be seen at night. “I like the slow learn mode. You can then change it to fast,” adds Mia, adding that the buttons are easy to use.
The Zing E10 performed brilliantly on any terrain Mia could find and tackled moderate hills with ease. It was perfect for driving around the neighborhood, buzzing along our farm roads and crossing our yards.
Thanks to the quiet motor, Mia can easily hear the sound of the car and her parents. Mia had to get used to controlling her speed on the hairpins, but eventually got the hang of it.
The Zing E10 featured front suspension, and Mia was impressed with the smooth ride it provided. "My hands don't hurt when I drive on the road," he says. The scooter broke down when ridden on rough roads and the handlebars had to be screwed in twice a month.
The fact that the scooter is waterproof is a relief to Mia and me. No matter how much you tell your kids to avoid puddles and wet grass, they will eventually make it through. Nice to know the scooter won't short out when it does.
Safety Equipment
As a parent, I feel that this scooter lacks some safety features. The Zing E10 has all the figurative bells and whistles you want in a scooter in this price range, but there are no literal features. It would be nice if there was a horn or buzzer function to notify other motorists.
There are no reflectors on the front or sides of the scooter, limiting the vehicle's visibility in the dark. Underdeck ambient lights look fine and dandy, but the front and rear lights provide an even bigger safety benefit.
Conclusion
The Segway Zing E10 is a great electric youth scooter that is reliable, rugged and versatile. Once you get past the confusing activation process, this scooter offers almost everything that novice and intermediate riders could want. Soon to be Mia's favorite scooter.
