Reflecting Back on the Function of Education in Indonesia (Discuss in full) – Initially, formal education in Indonesia aims to direct society to the formation and education of young people who serve their own nation and homeland, but used to instill the values and norms of colonial society so that they can be transferred by indigenous people and lead native people to become slaves of the ruling government in at that time.

The ideal concept of education by the colonizers is education that is so likely to be able to produce workers who can employed by the colonialists too, no longer to humanize humans as with the ideal concept of education Alone.

Indeed, the purpose of education is in the interests of the colonialists to be able to carry out their occupation. Namely, creating a workforce that can carry out colonial tasks in exploiting Indonesia's natural resources and wealth.

The description above shows that education in Indonesia from the past until now has always been subject to power above itself. The question that will arise next is then who is in power over education at this time? This question will lead us to deep contemplation about the person who greatly benefits from education.

People who are able to get an education tend to get a more decent income, but not all of them are like that. It is important in this discussion that nothing has changed from the education system during the colonial period until now.

Higher education is a requirement to redeem jobs in the future, not to develop a sense of humanity which is expected to have an impact on advancing culture and civilization. Education in Indonesia is not for the sake of science and a more humane civilization.

Everything goes for work alone, we may have been free from physical colonization, but our understanding of the concept of education is still the same as in the colonial era. Education has never been directed for scientific interests, human progress, and civilization until now. Society is only molded to be workers without being taught to be fully independent human beings.

This situation is ingrained in Indonesian society. This can be proven from the words that are commonly spoken by parents to their children "go to school so that one day they will get a decent job". Unfortunately, no one cries about why these words are so familiar to our ears, we believe that this is very natural. Thus, it is not wrong if society is formed with a mentality of fighters not students by educational institutions.

The real dedication that science is no longer the center of education is the slogan in the world of education, namely the word 'compete'. We have encountered many educational promotions such as "preparing students who are able to compete in the world work", "preparing a superior generation", and many other phrases that shape the mentality of students to be fighter. The teacher's advice to his students "competition is natural, as long as it remains positive".

Let's reflect on all of this again, the long-term impact of such an education system is a shift in the function of educational institutions and the death of compassion for others. Knowledge, insight, and skills are not something that will be lost if we share them. However, by instilling students' mentality as fighters in the world of education, the nature of knowledge will change knowledge, insight, and skills become 'objects' which if given or taught will be run out and lost.

With such a perspective, it is only natural that every student comes to school not to study, but to compete for knowledge, insight, and skills that will eventually be realized in the form mark. Learning and teaching each other between friends is a dangerous thing, students come to school determined to be the smartest students, not to be smart together. Finally, silently each student drops one another in prayer and action as well as spiritually also secretly the students kept a weapon in their hearts to stab friends (other students) if needed.

Reflecting Back on the Function of Education in Indonesia

Furthermore, education in Indonesia is obedience education. Students are only taught to obey learning this and that without being taught to discover new things in science, their job is only to use existing knowledge. They are not taught to solve problems by finding their own solutions to problems, even what What is learned in education is something that has nothing to do with life real. A shallow educational culture indeed, it all happened because students were only molded to be workers, more precisely industrial machines.

Not workers who are free and creative are ready to face life's problems, but workers who are afraid to work independently independent, afraid of not having an economic backing, and the path to take is to beg for a job at a company. Finally, if companies have a human quarantine place before being selected to become workers, the name of the place is known as an 'educational institution' in Indonesia. It is the capitalists who greatly benefit from education in Indonesia, everything in the formal education of society must benefit the capitalists.
