Definition of Regional Representative Council (DPD)

DPD RI or the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia is a state institution that is recognized according to become a representative of regional aspirations and interests, especially in making political decisions in the region National level.

The Rights of Members of the Regional Representative Council

DPD Membership Structure

Members of the Regional Representatives Council are elected by general election with the same number of members in each province and the total number of DPD members is not more than half of the total members of the DPR.

In Article 227 of Law Number 27 of 2009, it is explained that the membership of the DPD is:

  • DPD members from each province are set at 4 (four) people.
  • The number of DPD members does not exceed one third of the total members of the DPR
  • DPD members in carrying out their duties reside in their electoral districts and have offices in the provincial capitals of their electoral areas.
  • DPD membership is inaugurated by Presidential Decree
  • The term of office for DPD members is 5 years and ends simultaneously when the new DPD member takes an oath or promise.
