……….

It is undeniable that in formal education in Indonesia (until now), the measure of a person's success really depends on the high and low grades they get, both through value evaluation activities determined by educators, schools and by the government center. The implications of such a value-oriented educational paradigm can't help but make people think of finding ways so that it can be said to be successful through the fulfillment of optimal values, including by practicing fraud. Whereas one of the essences of ideal education is to create quality and integrity human beings through the application of religious values, honesty, and responsibility.

In the world of education, the term honesty expands with the emergence of a new term, namely academic honesty or academic honesty academic honesty. Academic honesty itself is one aspect of academic integrity (academic integrity). Dr. Tracey Bretag, a researcher from the University of South Australia, describes academic integrity as actions based on the values of trust, justice, respect, responsibility, humility, and honesty alone. In practice, the issue of honesty is considered to have received the most attention from world academics. This is based on the number of cases that reflect the low values of honesty in a person, without exception students and educators.

One of the cases of deviation from academic honesty is academic fraud or academic fraud academic cheating. Academic cheating itself, according to Deighton, is an attempt by someone to get success by dishonest ways. With say others, acts such as cheating, plagiarism, stealing and/or falsifying something related to academics with the aim of to get success can be categorized as academic cheating, and/or a form of deviation from honesty academic. So, what about the empirical conditions of academic honesty in Indonesia?

Academic Honesty as the Basic Capital Towards Generation Gold

Honesty is closely related to truth and morality. Being honest is a sign of one's moral quality. By becoming a qualified person, we are able to build an ideal society. An ideal society will produce an ideal generation as well, namely the golden generation. The term golden generation is actually a term used by the former Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud), Muhammad Nuh, during the 2012 National Education Day celebration.

M. Nuh (greeting) said that from 2010 to 2035, the Indonesian nation will be blessed with potential resources Human Resources (HR) in the form of an extraordinary number of productive age populations, or better known as bonuses demographics. If we can use this opportunity well, it will certainly have a positive impact on the progress of the Indonesian nation in terms of its human resources. So this is where the strategic role of education development to realize this is very important.

Education should actually be an investment in human resources (human capital investment) which can create a competitive climate that allows all people to participate in the administration and development of the country through their qualified human resources. That is the essence of the golden generation, namely the generation that is able to bring about change by standing on its own feet.

The golden generation also doesn't only talk about the intellectual intelligence of its human resources, but the character that is built in the human resources must also be a golden character. In essence, the golden character is the main foundation for building the golden generation. One indicator of the golden character that all of us must have is honesty, especially in the field of education, namely academic honesty. For this reason, the investment in human resources must also extend to the human character, namely an honest human being.

Grow Academic Honesty through Character Education

Character Education or Character Education is a system of inculcating ideal human character values in the educational environment. This character education is often referred to as moral education and/or moral education, namely education that teaches the values of goodness in humans. One of the values embedded in character education is the value of honesty, especially academic honesty. Character education can foster academic honesty in a person. Therefore, it is necessary to have a strategy that effective of the implementation of character education.

The strategy for implementing character education to foster honesty that can be done in every school/campus can be through: four continuous ways, namely: (1) Learning, meaning that the values of academic honesty must be conveyed by the teacher through the learning process, (2) exemplary, meaning that academic honesty must be applied or modeled by the education components at school school/campus. (3) Strengthening, schools/campus can make special programs, such as making banners/banners explaining the importance of academic honesty with the aim of strengthening the value of honesty. (4) Habituation, schools must be able to make habits to academic honesty, such as prohibiting plagiarism, prohibiting cheating, cheating and so on. The four ways will be carried out well if all components of education are able to apply them well as well.

In closing, I would like to quote sentence which is often expressed by statesmen of the world, "It is better to be an honest failure, than a successful person but a liar." Hmm…. Which one will we choose??

Teachers should be role models to be admired and imitated. In his hands, young people are entrusted to be developed into human beings who uphold morality and human dignity. Do not ask how much salary a teacher earns because it is not worth what they have done. The dedication and service of teachers in efforts to educate the nation will always be engraved even though the breath has separated from the body.

But nowadays the view of the noble figure of the teacher is starting to fade. This is reflected in the many cases that befall teachers. Teachers seem to be at a crossroads. In carrying out their duties, teachers are now often overshadowed by various threats ranging from light to iron bars.

Conditions today are very different from the past. In the past, the teacher's act of reprimanding students was part of from teacher's attention. No wonder, teacher era used to be very authoritative in the eyes of students and society. Imagine, if the teacher has been staring at students with a silent gaze, the students will immediately realize their mistakes. No one reported or accused the teacher of committing human rights violations because the teacher reprimanded or sanctioned the students' mistakes.

But what can you do, times have changed. In the past the teacher was a role model, a teacher figure that must be respected, now it is the opposite. Teachers today are considered as academic "machines", not as figures to be imitated, loved, and respected both inside and outside the school environment. Not surprisingly, many cases of student mistreatment of teachers have resulted in the collapse of youth morality.

Recently, the world of education Indonesia shocked by various cases of student violence against their teachers. Various types of backgrounds and case chronology illustrate that there is something wrong in the ethics and morality of students. This fact further emphasizes the importance of character education for students. Character education is not only focused on delivering academic material, but also developing ethics and manners about how students should behave and respect teachers.

We should learn to honor teachers from Japan. When the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, Emperor Hirohito ordered the Minister of Education to count the number of living teachers. The teachers were gathered and given the tough task of building Japan into a superior nation.

Restoring the perspective of the glory of a teacher is a real step that must be taken by all components of society. Not only the responsibility of the school environment. Starting from a family that instills religious and ethical values, the environment, and media The masses must also be careful in giving all the spectacles and information. Because either directly or indirectly these things shape the character of a student who is in the process of searching for identity. In addition, building communication, both between students and teachers so that there are no misunderstandings that lead to raw hit. Don't let the world of Indonesian education be tarnished with the phrase "teachers are busy teaching, while students are busy beating."
