click fraud protection

As the name suggests, prayer for the dead is a prayer that we say for the dead. Because praying for people who have died is an obligation for us as Muslims who are still alive.

Especially if the person who died was one of our family or even our parents. Because the prayers of pious and pious children are able to help parents in the afterlife. Even the reward of both will continue to flow.

From Abu Hurairah, the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "When a person dies, all his deeds will be cut off except for 3 things, namely alms Jariyah, useful knowledge, and pious children who pray for it." (HR Muslim)

It is only prayer that the dead are hoping for. Because the message of prayer will be more meaningful and desirable than the world and everything in it. They will be so happy if sent a prayer. Because the power of prayer is indeed extraordinary.

Allah SWT will certainly still give grace to people who believe to be able to spread goodness. One way is to pray for people who have died.

As for some hadiths that discuss some of the benefits if we want to pray for people who have died, namely:

Allah SWT says in QS Al-Baqoroh verse 180:

كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَكُمُ الْمَوْتُ إِن تَرَكَ خَيْرًا الْوَصِيَّةُ لِلْوَالِدَيْنِ وَالأقْرَبِينَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ حَقًّا عَلَى الْمُتَّقِينَ

Meaning:

"It is obligatory upon you when one of you comes or signs of death. If he leaves a lot of wealth, he will make a will for his parents and close relatives in a ma'ruf manner. This is an obligation on those who are pious.” (Surat al-Baqarah: 180)

Allah SWT says in QS Al-Isra verse 23:

وَقَضَى رَبُّكَ أَلاَّ تَعْبُدُواْ إِلاَّ إِيَّاهُ وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا

Meaning:

"And your Lord has commanded that you should not worship other than Him and should do good to your mother and father as well as possible." (Surat al-Isra: 23)

Rasulullah SAW said:

“A corpse in its grave is like a drowning person asking for help. He waits for the prayers of the father, mother, son, and friends he trusts. When the prayer has reached him, it is more pleasing to him than the world in its entirety. And indeed, Allah SWT conveys the prayers of the inhabitants of the world for the graves as big as mountains. As for the gifts of those who are still alive to those who have died, it is to ask Allah for forgiveness for them and to give alms on their behalf.” (HR Ad – Dailami)

Rasulullah SAW said:

"There are four things that can be done for people who have died, namely praying and making istighfar for them, carrying out their messages. leave, do good to their family and friends, and connect ties of kinship that do not continue except through intercession both."

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) prayed for those who are in their final resting place:

"May peace be upon you, O inhabitants of the graves from among the believers and Muslims. And indeed we, God willing, will follow. I ask Allah SWT for safety for us and you." (HR Muslim)

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) prayed for people who are in their final resting place in another hadith:

"O Allah, forgive those who are still alive among us, as well as those who have died among us." (HR At – Tirmidhi)

It was narrated by Imam Muslim from 'Abdullah bin 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said:

"Indeed, the most important virtue is if a person continues his relationship with the family of his father's best friends."

It was narrated by Imam Ahmad from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said:

"Indeed, Allah will raise the status of a pious servant in heaven." The servant then said: "O Allah, where did all this come from?" Allah SWT says: "From istighfar your son."

It was narrated by Imam Bukhari from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said:

"Hearing and obeying are rights or obligations as long as they are not ordered to do disobedience or badness. If ordered to do disobedience, then there is no obligation to listen and obey."

Narrated by Sa'ad bin Ubadah, he said to the Messenger of Allah:

"Indeed, my mother died suddenly. If he still had time to speak, he would have given alms. Can I give charity to him?” Rasulullah SAW replied: "Yes!" So Sa'ad dug a well and gave it in charity in the name of his mother." (Narrated by Bukhari, Muslim, Nasai, Abu Dawud, and Ahmad)

It was narrated by Bukhari from 'Aisha that there was a man who said to the Messenger of Allah:

“My mother died suddenly and I suspect that if she had spoken she would have given charity. Will he get a reward if I give charity for him (on his behalf)?”. Rasulullah SAW replied: "Yes, it is true."

It was narrated by Imam Muslim from Jubair bin Nufair that the Messenger of Allah prayed for the dead by saying:

Which has the following meaning:

"O Allah, forgive his sins and have mercy on him, protect him and forgive him, honor his place of return, widen his grave, cleanse him with water, snow and cool water. Cleanse him from all faults, as You have cleaned white clothes from dirt, and replace his house that is in the world with a better house in the hereafter and replace his family in this world with a better family, and his partner in this world with something more good. Enter him into Your Paradise and protect him from the torment of the grave or the torment of the fire of hell." (HR Muslim)

Narrated by Abu Daud from Abu Usaid Malik bin Rabi'ah As Sa'idi he said:

"While we were with the Messenger of Allah, suddenly a man from the Banu Salamah came to him." The man asked: "O Messenger of Allah, is there still room for me to do good to my parents after they died?" Rasulullah SAW replied: "Yes. Pray and ask forgiveness for both of them, carry out their wills, continue their friendship, and glorify family and friends they."
