The full name of Muhammad bin Abdullāh is a person who was born from a Bani Quraysh family who brought the teachings of Islam. The name Muhammad means a commendable person. This name was given by his beloved grandfather, Abdul Muttalib.

The Birth of the Prophet Muhammad

Before the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, there were many things that looked much different when compared to the post-birth and marked by the extraordinary events that occurred at that time.

Jahiliyah era

The era of ignorance is the age of ignorance, before the birth of the prophet. Where the prophets at that time used to worship idols. They are also used to drinking, gambling, immorality and degrading women.

His life moved and was divided into several tribes called "tribe“. Life is full of freedom and has no rules in society, so his life at that time was very chaotic.

"Year of the Elephant" Event

events"Year of the Elephant"is the event of the attack on the city of Mecca by Abraha's troops, at the time of birth" Prophet Muhammad. The Year of the Elephant is the year of the attack on the Kaaba by the troops or soldiers of King Abraha, the Governor of Habsyi in Yemen.

The elephant troop that he led was about to destroy the Ka'bah because the Quraysh would be more honorable and every year there were always many people to perform the pilgrimage

This is what makes Abraha want to divert mankind from coming to Mecca. Then Abraha built a large church in Shan'a which name is Al-Qulles. But his efforts were not successful, no one wanted to come to the Al Qulles church. Abraha was very angry and in the end mobilized an army of elephants to attack the Kaaba.

Near Mecca, the elephants confiscated the people's property, including 100 camels belonging to Abdul Muttalib, the grandfather of the prophet Muhammad. When the Kaaba was about to be destroyed, Allah SWT sent the Ababil bird to carry the Sijjil pebble with its beak. The pebbles were dropped right on the heads of each of the elephant troops until they penetrated their bodies to death.

This event is enshrined in the Qur'an surah Al-Fiil verses 1-5. (Surah 105:1-5). This elephant army was crushed to get a torment from Allah SWT. It was during this period that a prophet of the last Uzzaman was born, namely Muhammad from Abdullah and Siti Aminah. It is this event that marks the year of Muhammad's birth and is finally called Year of the Elephant.

Childhood of the Prophet Muhammad

The Prophet Muhammad since childhood has been given a life like an ordinary human being, even though he was highly glorified by Allah SWT, even since he was conceived he was abandoned by his father.

He was born orphaned, and at the age of 6 he was abandoned by his mother. So that he became an orphan, he felt what was experienced by humans in general. And at the age of 8 years, he was left by his grandfather Abdul Muttalib. The life he lived can be a role model for all mankind.

The Prophet Muhammad was breastfed by Thabisbah for 3 days and by his grandfather he was also breastfed by Halimah As-Sa'diyah and was in his care for approximately 6 years. At the age of 5 months he was able to walk and at the age of 9 months he was able to speak fluently.

As a child he was also herding goats. Abu Talib (Uncle of the Prophet) invited him to trade when he was 12 years old to the land of Sham. He was brought up by his uncle after the death of his grandfather, and took care of and guarded the prophet until he was more than 40 years old.

Muhammed's chest

The angel Gabriel stretched the prophet Muhammad at the age of 4 years, then split his chest and took out a heart and a clot of blood from Prophet Muhammad SAW's chest then the angel Gabriel washed it and put it back in its place and Prophet Muhammad remained in good health fit.

For 3 years the Messenger of Allah was preaching in secret from one house to another. Then came the letter Al Hijr: 94 (Surah 15 verse 94). Which means "So declare openly what you have been commanded and turn away from the polytheists (Surat al-Hijr: 15)".

With the revelation of this verse, the Prophet SAW broadcast his da'wah openly. The response of the Quraysh at that time was very angry and forbade the broadcasting of Islam brought by the prophet even the life of the prophet Muhammad was threatened.

However, the Prophet and his companions grew stronger and tougher in facing the challenges and obstacles that came their way faced with fortitude and patience despite ridicule, insults, ridicule and against all the teachings of the Prophet.
