Definition of Passive Sentence

A sentence is a series of words that are connected and complete to one another information meant to be conveyed. In addition, the sentence is a unified language to express a thought as a whole.

Passive Sentence Rules

  • Change the subject (in the active sentence) to the object.
    Example:

    Example: inaugurate – inaugurated
  • Add the word "by" after the predicate.
    Example: inaugurate – inaugurated by

Types of Sentences Passive

Based on the subject, passive sentences can be divided into 2 types, namely as follows:

  1. Transitive Passive Sentence
    That is a passive sentence that has an object.
    Example: The winner of the competition will be determined by the judges.
  2. Intransitive Passive Sentence
    That is a passive sentence that does not have an object.
    Example: Yesterday I fell while crossing the pothole.

In addition to the subject, passive sentences are divided based on the predicate, namely:

  1. Action Passive Sentence
    Action passive sentences are passive sentences where the predicate states an action/activity/action. The suffix used is in-, ter-, to- and pronouns.
    Example: The rose was planted by grandmother.
  2. Situation Passive Sentence
    The state passive sentence is a passive sentence whose predicate states the state of the subject. The verbs used are marked with the affix to late.
    Example: The young man fell asleep at the bus stop.

Characteristics of Passive Sentences

  1. the subject as a sufferer
  2. the predicate is affixed in-, ter-, ke-an, ter-kan
  3. The predicate is a person predicate (person pronoun)
