3 Requirements for a Good and Correct Paragraph in Indonesian

According to the Great Dictionary of Languages Indonesia, paragraph or paragraph is part of a chapter in an essay that contains a main idea and the writing begins with a new line. The paragraph itself has several types, where types of paragraphs these include deductive paragraph, inductive paragraph, mixed paragraph, narrative paragraph, argumentation paragraph, description paragraph, and example of a short analogy paragraph.

In writing, a paragraph must meet certain conditions so that the writing is good and correct. The terms of a good and correct paragraph are as follows.

1. Have Complete Paragraph Elements in It

A good and correct paragraph must have a number of paragraphs complete in it. The elements of the paragraph in question include:

• Main idea: is an element of a paragraph in the form of the main topic or problem to be discussed in a paragraph.
• Main sentence: sentence that contains the main idea of ​​a paragraph.
• Explanatory sentence: is a sentence that explains the main idea contained in a main sentence.

If these conditions are not met, then a paragraph has not been said to be good and true.

3. Having a Cohesiveness Between Every Element in It

If all the elements of the paragraph can form a unity, then the paragraph has become a good and correct paragraph, and has fulfilled this third requirement. One of the characteristics of a coherent paragraph is the existence of a logical and interconnected meaning relationship between the main idea and the explanatory idea. With this cohesion, a paragraph can be understood well and logically for the readers.

One way that can be done to form a cohesive sentence is to use conjunction into paragraphs. The types of conjunctions that can be used in a sentence are: conjunctions between sentences and intra-sentence conjunction. Sentence conjunctions are conjunctions that connect one sentence to another sentence in the paragraph. Meanwhile, intra-sentence conjunctions are conjunctions that connect two elements in the sentence of a paragraph.

From the explanation above, it can be concluded that the terms of a good and correct paragraph in language Indonesia must, among other things, have completeness, unity, and coherence of paragraph elements contained in a paragraph.
