3 Differences in Equivalent and Graded Compound Sentences in Indonesian
Equivalent compound sentences and multilevel compound sentences are two of jtypes of compound sentences which exists. Equivalent compound sentences are compound sentences whose constituent elements are equivalent, while multilevel compound sentences are compound sentences whose constituent elements are not equal. Both have their own characteristics that make them different from each other. The differences between the two are as follows!
1. The Position of the Forming Elements
The difference between the equivalent compound sentence and the first multilevel compound sentence lies in the elements that make up the two. In equivalent compound sentences, the constituent elements are practically equivalent and no one element is more important than the other elements.
Meanwhile, in multilevel compound sentences, the elements are not equal because there is one element whose position is more important than the other elements. The main element is the main sentence which is the core from multilevel compound sentences. This main element is then juxtaposed with complementary elements which are commonly referred to as clauses.
2. Conjunction used
The next difference lies in the conjunctions used in these two compound sentences. Compound sentences are equivalent to using coordinating conjunction, where this conjunction is only used specifically for equivalent compound sentences.
