Examples of Educational Poems and Their Meanings
Poetry is a work literature typical ancient malay which is quite popular. At first the poetry came from the Arab civilization which then entered the ancient Malay area. But along with its development, the poetry began to be modified and turned into a typical Malay poem. Especially because of the influence of famous poets like Hamzah Fanzuri. In the discussion of the previous article, the characteristics of the poem and some examples of advice poetry have been given. Before discussing further, it helps us to know the classification of the poem itself.
Poetry Classification
Poetry as one types of old poetry known to have 4 lines in one stanza and rhyme a/a/a/a. But there are also other types, namely poetry that has 3 lines in one stanza rhyming a/a/b and poetry that has 2 lines in one stanza rhyming a/b. However, these two forms of poetry are not popular. This 4-line verse is at a glance similar to types of poetry. Although there are similarities, they are two different types of literary works.
The equation of poetry with rhymes includes the number of lines and in one line consists of 8 – 12 tribeword. But the difference between the characteristics of the poem and enough poetry significant. Pantun rhymes a/b/a/b while poetry has rhyme a/a/a/a. The first and second lines of the pantun are known as sampiran and the third and fourth lines are called contents. In the poem there is no term sampiran because all the lines in the poem are the contents. In addition, a rhyme also only consists of one stanza, in contrast to a poem that can have dozens of stanzas.
Basically, poetry is classified in terms of storytelling. Poetry is categorized into 2, namely narrative poetry and non-narrative poetry. Narrative poetry has the form of telling like a story. The kinds of poetry that fall into this category are historical poetry, banner poetry, figurative poetry and romantic poetry. Meanwhile, non-narrative poetry is not a story, but advice or teaching. The types of poetry that fall into this category are religious poetry and poetry with other themes.
Educational Poem
As previously discussed, non-narrative poetry includes poetry with themes other than story and religious advice. One of the poems included in non-narrative poetry is educational poetry. Just like the name, this poem contains content message about education. Both in the teaching system, the quality of educators and students, as well as other things related to the world of education.

Example 1:

Meaning of the poem:
This educational verse only has 2 stanzas, each consisting of 4 lines and rhyming a/a/a/a. Although almost similar to the characteristics of a rhyme, this poem has clear differences. Judging from example 1, lines 1 and 2 in the verse do not function as sampiran. All lines serve as body. In general, this educational poem contains a message for children/students about the importance of learning and seeking knowledge. In stanza (1) the author gives advice to never stop learning and seeking knowledge. Furthermore, in verse (2), it is explained how the benefits of science for the life and future of children.

(1) This is a poem about hardiknas,
do not read hot hearts,
for a reminder to watch out,
not a compliment to be satisfied.
(2) Now the world is very advanced.
let us not be deceived,
lower quality than before,
never move at that point.

Meaning of Poetry:
The educational poem above contains the author's criticism of the quality of education in Indonesia Indonesia. From example 2, it can be seen that the author uses a lot of language figure of speech to express the message to be conveyed. In stanza (1) the author reminds that he wrote the poem in order to commemorate the National Education Day and as a reminder only. In stanza (2) he states many changes in education along with development era, but the quality in the field is getting worse. Meaning of the poem:
Example 3 is an educational poem which has 5 stanzas. In general, this poem encourages the reader not to be lazy to go to school, seek knowledge and socialize. In stanza (1) the author gives the spirit to learn and not be mean. The stanza (2) is also almost the same as the stanza (1). The author emphasizes that the main priority of students is learning and the knowledge gained can determine their future. Bait (3) remembers that the teacher is a companion and intermediary of knowledge. Therefore, respect the teacher who has gone to great lengths to help you study. That way, the knowledge that you can become more meaningful and firmly embedded in the soul. While in verse (4) the author reminds that school is also a place to socialize. Therefore, appreciate the friends and friends you have. Furthermore, in stanza (5) reminds should not be arrogant and arrogant while studying.
