In accordance with our title this time, this time we will discuss the Differences between Poetry and Poetry in Indonesian Literature. In the previous article, we discussed about types of old poetry, new types of poetry, types of contemporary poetry, and types of poems.

Poetry and poetry are two literary works that have similarities. Most people think that these two literary works are the same, even though they are different. The difference is not absolutely visible. This is why they are considered the same. One key to remembering is that rhymes must be poetry, but poetry is not necessarily rhyme. To find out what are the differences between poetry and rhyme, here are some things about poetry and rhyme.

1. Differences Based on Understanding

  • Poetry

The term poetry comes from the Dutch language, namely from the word "poetry".poezie”. However, from an etymological point of view, the word poetry comes from fromwordPoesis” (Greek) which means creation. Or in language English comes from the word "

poetry“. Poetry can be interpreted as a form of literary work composed of beautiful, meaningful words and bound by several rules. As the word "poetry“Poetry tends to be paired with prose.

Poetry has a more general meaning, even poetry can appear in a short story, essay, or novel. For example, there is often the term "the sentence is very poetic". This shows that poetry is not always a stand-alone literary work. Poetry is defined as an arrangement of beautiful words that are meaningful and bound by rules and sound elements.

  • Rhyme

There is also a word in Dutch which means rhyme, namely the word "gedicht”. In English, poetry is known from the word "poem". Poetry is poetry that stands alone or is individual. Poetry has a broader meaning than poetry. This is because the rhyme is more related to the sound of sentence inside it. In rhyme, words are associated with each other because of the similarity of sound. Message what is conveyed is also not interpreted and interpreted.

The definition of poetry has been expressed by the poet Boris Pasternak in his poem entitled Batasan Sajak. Here's a description of the poem:

rhyme is a shrill whistle gloomy

rhyme is the creaking of frozen snow cones

rhyme are the leaves that freeze through the night

rhyme is two night birds singing a duel

rhyme is sweet peas suffocate to death

rhymes are the tears of the world on the shoulders

In contrast to Boris Pasternak, Chairil Anwar sees poetry as a means to where he goes after running from the wide building of the yard, and when he gets lost he can't walk.

2. Differences Based on Word Disclosure

  • Poetry

Based on the expression of his words, poetry expresses the meaning implicitly, vaguely, and only implicitly. The words used dominantly use figure of speech or tend to have connotative meanings. The use of connotative meaning in this poem invites readers to imagine according to their respective interpretations. Poetry often gives the reader the illusion of beauty, takes the reader in fantasy, creates an idea according to the atmosphere when reading poetry.

The following is an example of a poem by WS Rendra under the title Mata Hitam.

Two black eyes are blue eyes
two black eyes really know the language of longing.
Missing doesn't only belong to women
and both know the same, and both are shameless.

Two black eyes immersed in the fragrant flesh
beauty without silk, without rainbow.
Two black eyes is a dim house
afternoon cup of coffee and hidden memories

  • Rhyme

In terms of word expression, rhyme is dominantly influenced by elements of song, rhythm, and sound harmony. The meaning conveyed in the poem is not only implied but involves the whole content.

The following is a poem by Affrini Adham in his poem entitled Malaya Pasti Merdeka.

The whole of the situation and reality

the whole of ability and truth

the sum total of possibilities and certainty

combination – stance – sacrifice and struggle

-has really built trust

-has really raised expectations

"That the independence we have been fighting for so long"

has come close to us

has been firm and real

pictured before the eyes

Malay! Definitely free."

We must be free!

We are human, nation and state!

We are not dolls!

We must be free

above our “right of lordship”

in harmony with independence everywhere

as other human beings who have a nation and have a state

Malaya must be free –

above all – his state rights.

3. Difference Based on Rule Attachment

  • Poetry

Poetry (especially old poetry) is bound by rules such as the number of lines per stanza, the number of tribe words and rhymes. Even (old) poetry tends to look very rigid because of its attachment to existing rules. Example:

Educational Poem

O you young peoplea,

You are the heir of the nationa,

Keep learning all the timea,

To build the nationa,

Knowledge is not for wealtha,

Knowledge will not be timeless with agea,

Because knowledge will wake you upa,

And knowledge will make you maturea,

Learn without the mallUS,

Respect all residentsUS,

The future needs workUS,

If necessary energy reducedUS,

Respect the teachersu,

Look at it as a parentu,

Knowledge will always enter the heartu,

With blessings for your soulu.

  • Rhyme

Poetry is a work literature which is not as bound by the rules as in (old) poetry. Literary rhymes are also concerned with the harmony of sound so that rhymes are better known as sound equations. Example:

that nightu

Another cry is heardu

Who is youngu

Words break the heart kalu

Footsteps without skippingu

This heart keeps beatingu

Oh Ibu..

prostrationu

prayeru

Why always for meu

sonu.
