Research Results: Heavy Metal Can Prevent Depression*

Music heavy metal often identified with a noisy music genre and is believed to encourage aggressive action for those who hear it. But is it true? A study by Leah Sharman and Dr. Genevieve Dingle from the School of Psychology, University of Queensland at 2015 revealed that extreme music like heavy metal can actually be a healthy way to process anger.

In the study, 39 extreme music listeners aged 18-34 were asked what the last thing that made them feel they get angry before the researcher then gives them questions that can provoke emotions they. Then, half the group was asked to listen to music of their choice for 10 minutes, including genre songs metal like from Parkway Drive, Slipknot and Rage against the Machine, while others just sit down shut up. The results of the study show that people who choose and listen to metal music feel more inspired and more active because of their positive emotions.

A recent study published in the Journal of Community Psychology in January 2018 also concluded that metals helped participants to withstand environmental stress and build up identity and strong community and sustainable, which will prevent the emergence of potential mental health problems. This conclusion was reached after researchers Paula Rowe and Bernard Guerin from The University of South Australia conducted informal interviews with 28 people aged 18-24.
