Sentences themselves have several types. As for some types of sentences these include core sentence, single sentence, types of compound sentences, direct sentence example, and indirect sentence.

Every thing must have its own characteristics, as well as sentences. The following are some of the characteristics of sentences in Indonesian.

1. Is a Unity Language

As mentioned at the beginning paragraph, that the sentence is a unit from existing language units. The language units that make up a sentence include:

  • Phoneme: is a sound in language that is able to distinguish the meaning of a word.

2. Can Stand Alone

A sentence can be said to stand alone because a sentence is able to convey an idea even without being added by another sentence. This is different from phrases that cannot stand alone and must be added with other language elements.

3. Have a Final Intonation Pattern

In the definition of the sentence mentioned at the beginning of the discussion, the sentence is said to have a final intonation pattern. That is, a sentence has a special intonation at the end when we say the sentence. The function of the final intonation in the sentence we say is as an affirmation or emphasis of the spoken sentence. Sentence intonation patterns also vary greatly, depending on the type of sentence spoken.

If the spoken sentence is various news sentences, Example of a statement sentence in Indonesian or declarative sentence, then the final intonation pattern is flat. That is, the sentence has a flat tone when pronounced with oral. Furthermore, if the spoken sentence is types of commands or imperative sentence, then the intonation of the pronunciation must be high. It aims to emphasize that the two sentences contain an order or affirmation of something, so that the final intonation pattern must also be high compared to statement sentences, news sentences or sentences declarative. And if the spoken sentence is types of interrogative sentences and examples or interrogative sentence, then the final intonation pattern that is spoken must be lower than the intonation in other sentences.

In sentences, capital letters are used at the beginning of the sentence as the first letter that starts the sentence. In addition, capital letters in sentences are also used in the first letter of a direct quote, the first letter in the name of a person or a region, the letter first for designations related to God, and so on, the use of capital letters in these sentences has been regulated in the grammar language Indonesia.

In addition, the use of punctuation marks is also used in sentences. There are several punctuation marks used for certain types of sentences. For example use of dot used for news sentences, statements, or declarative sentences. Or, use of question marks and exclamation points for interrogative sentences/interrogative sentences and imperative sentences/sentence interrogative.

These are some of the characteristics of sentences in Indonesian. Hopefully useful for all readers.
