Short story is an abbreviation of story short. As the name implies, short stories are one of the new types of prose. Different from types of prose other like romances, saga, and novels, short stories are written with less than 10,000 words. Short stories have intrinsic and extrinsic elements the same as novels or novella, the difference is that short stories focus more on one event, a single plot, a limited number of characters and a short time.

There is kinds of short stories which was discussed in the previous article. It has also discussed the characteristics, structure, elements and some examples of short short stories about the environment. This article will provide examples of short stories about the natural environment.

Example 1:

Earth is not as beautiful as it used to be

It's very concerning for the current state of the earth, disasters seem to never go away from face of the earth. Various kinds of disasters that often hit the earth, due to act irresponsible humans, preserving the natural environment. Even other creatures have also become victims, so that the number of their existence is on the verge of extinction and almost, there are also those that really don't exist anymore, on earth. Are humans including creatures who are greedy and selfish? answer back to yourself, and reflect on this incident.

The laptop screen shows how severe the conditions of the natural environment are, very clearly displayed in front of me, the human who did it illegal logging, illegal theft of endangered animals, illegal animal trade, these are all examples of environmental damage natural. Slowly my tears started to fall, I couldn't bear to see the group of people who did that. Suddenly, mother came with a cup of warm tea "Drink the tea first, son" my mother said. "Yes, ma'am," he also saw the series of videos "I don't know how long, humans do all that, as soon as possible we must take precautions," continued the mother who happens to be an environmental activist. "Yes ma'am, if not treated immediately the consequences will be very fatal" I answered worriedly.

After watching the video, my mother told me about the condition of my village's natural environment, when she was young "If you know me, our village environment is now much different from before, it used to be that every resident here very enthusiastic planting various types of plants in front of his house, so that our village becomes very shady and cool, the village forest used to be habitat there are many deer, but now people are hunting them and finally they are extinct, mother used to play with them often deer deer, all residents are very aware of the importance of protecting the natural environment, but, along with progress technology, residents actually do what they want to the environment, "explained the mother.

 One day, in my village there were many people in project uniforms and various kinds of heavy equipment, suddenly I was shocked seeing it, all the citizens looked enthusiastic and happy for their arrival, that made me feel confused and wonder. Then, without thinking, I immediately met my mother in her study.
"Excuse me, ma'am" the mother immediately stopped writing activities "Yes, what's wrong son?" mother asked. "There is something very important ma'am" I replied worriedly. "Urgent? what's the matter, kid?" asked the mother curiously "There is a group of project people, they come to the village, they go to the forest, it seems they want to do land acquisition" I explained. Mom was silent, then she immediately left me and called someone.

Finished the call, mother's expression looked angry and very disappointed, suddenly mother pounded the table. I, too, was immediately surprised and curious "What's wrong, ma'am? Why do you look angry and disappointed?" I asked, "Apparently, the village head really approves the construction of a teak wood management company, is he not aware of his reckless actions? I just take decisions arbitrarily, without asking mother's opinion" said mother with mounting emotions "Mother, we better go to the forest and ask this directly to the village head" I suggested to the village head. mother. Mother's emotions subsided again, mother agreed with me and mother rushed to the forest.

It turned out that in the village forest, there were very many residents, the residents saw the process of land acquisition, in fact, some were selling in the vicinity, in order to earn money. It happened, because there was a big project in the village. Mother immediately met the village head, who was talking to his aide. Mother's emotions can not be contained anymore "Sir, what are you doing all this?" mother asked aloud. Until the residents pay attention to the mother. "Well, why are you suddenly angry? I don't understand what you mean" replied the village head who looked calm. "You agree to a project that will harm people, in the long term, don't you think what kind of danger will it cause?" said mother disappointed. The village head smiled sarcastically “Look! residents support my policy, by being present in this project, hahahaha..” replied the village head proudly. Mom left immediately, ignoring him.

Finally, my mother took action by proposing the termination of a large project in my village. Through agencies related to the environment. But what power, the mother's efforts failed. It turns out that the reason is that I want to 'prosper' the people through a big project in my village. Tirelessly, in order to fight for the preservation of nature, my mother sought help here and there to stop the project, but still to no avail due to differences of opinion. My mother, too, gave in to this situation “Why? for reasons of wanting to prosper, are they not aware? that the environment will be destroyed and for sure, they will become its victims, nature will be the enemy if we don't take care of it and nature will be friendly, if we take care of it” said my mother almost shedding tears of sadness because his attempt failed. I, as a child, comforted my mother.
"Mother, I beg you, mother, don't be sad, maybe we can't stop it, but we can pray for them to be aware, ma'am," I answered while wiped her tears "Thank you son, it turns out that mother's child is starting to grow into an adult, and is wise" hearing that I smiled shyly "Ah, mother can, praise nasya"

As time went on, my village grew out of control, my village was hit by a disaster due to the big project to build the teak wood company. Villagers, many complained about the policy of the village head. And finally, the village head was dismissed from his position, because his policies were detrimental to people's lives.

Even though the village headman, no longer in office, will not be able to change the state of my village, which will eventually reach the peak of destruction. One day, rain which hit my village very heavily, the trees in my village, can't absorb rain water anymore, reservoir the village is also unable to stem, the amount of rain water. The river in my village finally overflowed, because its flow was blocked by a lot of garbage.
The village river flooded, destroyed my village. My mother and I can only surrender, to face the test of this life, by Allah's permission, my mother and I can survive. We are afraid of losing each other. "This is what everyone will accept, who doesn't care about the environment, you have failed to take care of the environment," said the mother in a weak state. Then my mother and I hugged each other, hoping that there would be a more beautiful life, with a natural environment that is still beautiful.

Our world is getting darker

The clock shows 06.30 in the morning. However, vehicle fumes have spread everywhere. Car and motorcycle horns continue to sound, indicating the driver's frustration when stuck in traffic. Yes, Putri's house is on the side of the highway. Every morning and evening, Putri is forced to breathe dirty air. The only sight he saw was a traffic jam. The only music he heard was the horns of motorbikes and cars. Putri always fantasizes so that later the air around her house will be clean without smoke vehicles, the scenery he saw became the green mountains and the sky blue bright, as well as reduced vehicles.

In addition, Putri also has a dream that one day she will have a large garden filled with beautiful trees and flowers, then he will make a rule so that the plants there are not allowed tampered with. However, that dream will not be realized if the Princess does not do something. He has to plant trees, flowers, and other plants, then he has to buy a large land to be used as a garden, gardening equipment such as fertilizer, water, and others must also be purchased. Of course it costs a lot of money.

"Just calm down.. it's okay!" replied the Princess. Then, the two of them entered the class. A few minutes later, the doorbell rang. We started the lesson. The first lesson is Mathematics. During math class, Mia looks gloomy. The daughter who saw it, immediately caught it.

"Hey, Mia! Why are you gloomy? You must be sick? Even though this morning you looked very cheerful.. " said Putri.
"Oh-uh-hmm.. I don't know why! I'm in good health!” Mia replied excitedly again.
"Thank God, I thought you were sick or something.." Putri said while listening to Mrs. Moni, the math teacher. Teaching and learning activities ended at 14.00 precisely. The students at this school returned to their respective homes. However, before going home Mia wanted to talk to Putri. Mia takes Putri to the park behind the school. That's where Putri and Mia's favorite place is.

"What is wrong?" asked Putri while sitting in a chair that was not foreign to them.
"Hmm.. Hey, I have a suggestion. But you don't laugh but also don't be angry, okay.. " Mia answered while lowering her head. "What's the matter? Until you brought me here?” asked the Princess. "Gee lol.. I want to make your dreams come true.." Mia said.
"Ha ha ha.. No way Mi! We don't have as much money as your parents. We do not have a large area to be used as a park. We don't have the knowledge to garden!” Princess refused while laughing.

"W-we don't need a big land! We only need land that is the right size. If it's knowledge, we can learn," answered Mia. "Do we have land?"
"Have. My family has 1 piece of land which is not too big. However, if it is used as a garden, the size is not too small.”
"Oh.. then what about the costs for seeds and other gardening equipment? I don't want to involve my parents or yours."
“My idea is that we should set up a small temporary shop to sell various items. Like a work of art or something.." Mia replied.
"Not bad! But I want to ask our classmates for cooperation.. " Putri suggested.
"Okay!"

After much conversation, they finally returned to their respective homes. Putri looks happy because Mia wants to help make her dream come true. Mia also looks happy because she can help her close friend to realize her dream. That night, Putri looked up at the ceiling. Again, he fantasized about his dream that was about to come true. How happy he is. He was grateful to have met a friend as good as Mia. Putri promises that if she is able to make Mia's dream come true, she will do it.

The next day, Putri and Mia invite their classmates to make Putri's dream come true. Alhamdulillah, it turns out that all of her classmates agree with Putri and Mia's goals and they are ready to help. That same day, we divided the tasks. Ardi will make a small table because his father is a carpenter, Nina will make key chains because he is creative, Dodi will make banners and brochures, Fani will make handcrafts from rattan because she is good at making handcrafts, Farhan will paint because he is talented, then there are many other. This small shop will be held at Putri's house.

It's been 1 week the shop in front of Putri's house is open. Every day, the shop is always busy with visitors who come to buy the goods sold in the shop. But there are also those who just look around. Luckily, the shop was open when Putri's school was on holiday. It becomes useful because every time Putri and her friends can look after their little shop. Income every day, always not less than 250,000.00. Alhamdulillah.. "Put, it looks like we have enough money to buy gardening equipment and to buy plant seeds," word Mia.

The shop at Putri's house has been running for 3 months. The income earned has been collected and the results are decent. Today Mia invites Putri to buy gardening equipment and plant seeds that will be planted on Mia's land which will be used as a garden. Coincidentally, it turns out that the land is near Mia's house. Only about 300 meters from Putri's house. Meanwhile, the gardening equipment shop is far from Putri's house. To get there, it takes 20 minutes. That's if it's not jammed.

"Hmm.. yes, that's right," replied the Princess.
"Then let's go shopping!" Mia exclaimed excitedly.
"Hmm.. but I still doubt. What if we don't have enough money?" asked the Princess worried.
"I'll pay for the shortfall," Mia answered lightly.
"Thank you Mia.. You helped a lot."
"You're welcome, let's go!" Mia exclaimed.

They went to the gardening supply store. Not too busy today. So they arrived on time. This shop is in the form of a gardening supermarket. The shop is called "Antonio's Gardening Supplies." There they buy shovels, buckets, hoses, fertilizer, seeds, and much more. After getting tired of walking around the fairly large supermarket, Putri and Mia finally arrived at the cashier's desk. They pay the bill. Luckily they had no less money. That's because, Putri and Mia bought a fairly cheap but good quality one.

“Mi, the money is less. What do you want to buy?" asked Putri on their way home.
"Hmm.. How about we hire a carpenter to make small chairs that will be placed in the garden?” Mia suggested.
"What!? That's expensive. We have a little more money left," said Putri. “I can pay for it,” Mia replied casually.
"But, is it really okay?" asked Putri reassuringly. Mia nodded. "As long as you can still help me to sell in our shop."
"Hehehe.. of course!" replied the Princess excitedly.
"Sir, stop by the wood shop, okay?" Mia said to the driver.
"Good!" replied the driver.

One year later.
“Put!! This, how? Have you bought any more seeds yet!?” asked Mia half-shouting in the crowd at the city park at that time. "NOT YET!!!" replied the Princess shouted.
"Princess!! Uncle Antonio is calling!!” call Mia again.
“Just pick it up by you! I'm taking care of my customers!” replied the Princess again.

That's the daily life of the new Princess. Every day is always busy with his small garden. He has to take care of customers, plant new trees, get guests, just busy! Now besides being near her house, Putri also has a garden in other areas. This one, really belongs to him. And the plan, Putri will open another garden of hers in another area. Day by day, Putri is getting busier. Even so, he did not forget about his school. The area around Putri is getting cleaner and congestion is reduced.
