Poetry is a work literature which contains an expression of one's thoughts and feelings that contain elements of sound and meaning in it. Poetry can have any theme and be used for anything, one of which is to satirize and criticize the socio-political situation that occurs in society. There is one type of poetry that can be used to perform this function, namely satirical poetry. Poetry this indeed contains satire or criticism for matters of socio-political nature. So that we know what it looks like from these satirical poems, here are some examples of them.

Example 1:

The brain has gone to the knee
By: Candra Malik

If suddenly we fight,
it's because hunger has been awakened,
and our sticky stomachs
billing time to nag.

If we suddenly protest,
it's because drinking just a drop,
and our deflated pockets
can't afford to buy a glass of ice anymore.

If we protest at the same time,
it's because the eyes are bored gawking,
and our stupid looks
also want to act sontoloyo.

If we hurry together,
it's because the brain has gone to the knee,
and our blunt logic
don't want to be forced to be barren anymore.

Example 2:

Is that us? ²
By: Candra Malik

little read,
talk too much,
is that logic?

little writing,
lots of analysis,
is it logical?

But that's us:
just aging,
immature.

Yes, that's us:
feel able,
very wise

Important Question³
By: WS Rendra

Indonesia is beautiful in abundance.
Beside the well a guava tree is growing.
In the sea skipjack fish and dolphins.
Then why did you kill Marsinah?
Why did you kill the farmers in Sampang, Madura?
Can't you see the dancing butterfly?
Chickens squawk and birds sing?

O you mighty knight!
Why did you kill Marsinah?
Does the suffering of the workers disturb your nap?
Why did you kill the farmers in Sampang?
Are you the knight who defends oppression?

Have you never imagined
hear your mother moan
when she gave birth to you?
Haven't you ever seen your sister dance,
and hear your grandmother sing?
Why did you steal Marsinah's life?
you plunder the lives of farmers in Sampang,
who fights for their right to live
according to the law?
While you are fiercely defending
The cukong who plundered the nation's economy.

Wahas mighty knights,
where is your hometown?
Who is your mother?
Who are your brothers and sisters?

When people's money is taken abroad,
when the rule of law was betrayed,
and the sovereignty of the people is plundered by tyranny,
where do we stand, my knight?

Why did you kill Marsinah?
Why did you kill the farmers in Sampang, Madura?
Why did you kill Udin, Moses,
and in Trisakti 4 students?
Who is your mother, knights?
