Here is an example of a short fantasy story in language Indonesia :
Olo the Bear*
Dwiagustriani's work
In the forest, there lived a bear named Ollo. He has two friends, namely Imut the ant and Acil the rabbit. The three of them are good friends, often play and tell stories together. Every night, the three of them lay on a rock ledge and stared up at the night sky full of stars. Ollo, who loves to look at the night sky, then told Cute and Acil about the constellations. Sometimes, Ollo told him about Orion the Hunter, Sirius the Sky Dog, or the tree on the moon.
One night, Ollo suddenly wakes up his friends. “Cute, Acil, I want to go to the moon. I want to find the tree," he said enthusiastic. Cute and Acil are already asleep, so so surprised.
“Ollo, I thought there was a fire in the forest. You're just disturbing," said Acil as he tried to go back to sleep. Cute doesn't even care. He was still sound asleep in his sleep.
“Guys, listen up. I want to go to space. I want to be where the stars and the moon are," he said again. Very enthusiastic.
"Oh, go to sleep. It's very late. Tomorrow morning, the story will be," said Acil.
But Ollo no longer heard Acil's comment. He was sure about his dream. While curled up looking up at the sky, a star flashed above him. He smiled in his sleep. "Stars..." he mumbled in a dream.
The next morning, he excitedly told his wish to the sky. Reaching for the moon and stars.
"Ollo, that's something impossible," word Acil. “No bear has ever ventured into space. Especially wanting to visit the moon and stars.”
'Yes, Olo. Acil is right. But, why do you suddenly want to go to the moon and the stars?” asked Cute curiously.
“I wonder if there are trees on the moon. Besides, I want to pick a little star in the sky to keep. In this forest, I want to keep it in my notebook,” explained Ollo.
“That star isn't that small Olo. Maybe from on this rock we see they are so small. But the stars are no different from the earth. The stars are also very big. It's just that our place is so far from it that we see it so small," said the Cute.
Ollo looked sad. He confirmed the opinion of his friends. But he has fallen love on the sky, moon and stars. “What to do? I really like their twinkle. I want to keep it among my reading books. In my notebooks," he said sadly.
"Let's make it like this. You're a good storyteller. Well, make a fairy tale about the stars and the moon. You write in a book. Isn't that the same as distorting the moonlight and twinkling stars?" Acil's advice.
"Yes, right. That's good advice, Cil. The sky will never leave us either. It will stay up there. We can still see the moon and stars every night without you having to have them," said Cute.
Ollo smiled happily. His friends have provided a wise solution. He would write tales about the stars. Also about the moon. And also the sky. He doesn't need to pick up the stars in the sky. Let him stay there. He was sure that he was not the only one who liked the view of the night sky.
That afternoon, he began to write his fairy tale. While looking up at the sky, he wrote a fairy tale about the princess of the stars. It has added one more star. Star in the storybook. The stars in the sky seemed to be twinkling to welcome a new star in Ollo's storybook.
That is, every time Ollo has a dream, he will make a fairy tale about his dream. He wrote it so that his dream was always close to him.
