Text in Indonesian that tells about the procedure or process of the occurrence of an event phenomenon called explanatory text. Aceh Earthquake*

On December 26, 2004 at 07.58 WIB, a large earthquake measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale rocked Aceh and its surroundings. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the west of Aceh with a depth of 10 km. This large-magnitude earthquake with a fairly shallow depth did not doubt cause a tsunami wave as high as 9 meters. This tsunami did not only hit coastal areas of Indonesia such as Aceh and North Sumatra. Several other areas that were also hit by this tsunami included the West Coast Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand, the East Coast of India, Sri Lanka and even as far as the East Coast Pantai Africa. Some reports also mention that unusual symptoms at sea level caused by the tsunami It is also found in areas far from Indonesia, namely around the West Coast of America South.

The magnitude of the earthquake strength accompanied by the strong brunt of the tsunami clearly caused not a few casualties. The total death toll from the earthquake and tsunami reached 283,100 people, 14,000 people missing and 1,126,900 people homeless. In Indonesia, the death toll reached 126,000 people. The large death toll in Indonesia was caused by the tsunami that hit the west coast of Aceh and North Sumatra. Dozens of buildings were destroyed, especially in the Meulaboh and Banda Aceh areas. Especially in Banda Aceh, almost half of all existing buildings were seriously damaged by the tsunami.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the Aceh earthquake and tsunami in Sri Lanka reached 45,000 people and more from 1 million people were affected by the earthquake. While in India, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the death toll reached more than 12,000 people. The death toll from the earthquake and tsunami was also recorded in Somalia, which was around 100 people.

Judging from historical records, the Aceh earthquake and tsunami was the second major earthquake after the Chile earthquake in 1960 which reached 9.5 on the Richter scale. However, based on the duration of the earthquake, the Aceh earthquake was an earthquake with the longest duration of 10 minutes. The long duration of the earthquake and the magnitude of the earthquake were enough to make the entire globe vibrate.
