2. Discipline in Learning

Rani is the third of five children. Rani's father was an army soldier. Their family lives in a special TNI service house. Rani's father always taught discipline in everything. Starting from discipline in worship, discipline in activities, discipline in sports, and discipline in learning. Rani's father's firmness in applying discipline does not mean to make his children feel afraid. The relationship between father and son between them is very harmonious.

Rani and all her siblings were taught to always study during the day. After school, Rani's father taught her to always do all the housework given that day. However activity it had to be done after they had eaten lunch. When the schoolwork is over then father frees Rani and her siblings to play. And in the evening, father obliges to study from ba'da isya until 09.00 WIB.

All this discipline is not burdensome for Rani. In fact, this habit actually brings extraordinary wisdom. The area where Rani lives is an area where electricity is still scarce. The electricity in the area could be off for a whole day or even up to three days. Once upon a time the electricity went out in the evening until dawn. On that day there was a lot of school work for Rani and her friends. When she arrived at school, almost all of Rani's friends complained that they couldn't do their assignments because the electricity went out. However, this did not happen to Rani. Rani was ready with all the tasks for the day. Rani also told the teacher and all her friends that she was always used to doing school work during the day. As a result, when one day the electricity went out at night, Rani was not confused because she had not done her schoolwork. This is the wisdom of discipline in learning.

3. I'm sorry I don't know

Now I'm 33 years old and I'm just a housewife. No income except for the husband's income. I have no income of my own. I don't know what work I can do. It's even worse than that, I can't even teach my kids to do their homework. When they asked about the school materials, I was speechless language and in the end I told them to take tutoring. Maybe for some people tutoring is a good activity for children. But for me, with them there are additional activities outside, the less time we spend together.

It all started when I was 11 years old. At that time I was in 5th grade. Unlike other friends who are passionate about school, I feel very bored at school. I often skip school. Go to the fields, rivers, or even to the market. My parents didn't know any of that. They only know that in the morning I go to school and in the afternoon I go home. I did this truant scene for a long time. About two months I was more often out of school.

Things that are not good will be difficult to cover in the long term. This happened to me too. The school finally told my parents about my truancy habit. My parents were beyond shocked. They were furious. Even my father hit me. Not long ago my mother fell ill. Mom and dad said they were sick because they thought about me. I began to give up to continue to school for the sake of mother. But dad was always rude to me after that incident. What's more, my grades were not satisfactory for my father.

I continued my education until I graduated from elementary school. I'm not good enough either. I then told my dad that I didn't want to go to school anymore. I can no longer study. Even I have no desire to study. Mom and dad are at their wits end trying to persuade me to go to school. As a result came a surprising decision from father. He decided to marry me. The 29-year-old boy became the father's choice. I can't imagine marrying a man who is 17 years away from me. But I don't know what's on my mind. I immediately agreed with my father's decision. Getting married at a young age finally became my way of life.

Now 21 years have passed, and I have just felt the consequences of not being educated. Uneducated is very troublesome. Lack of knowledge actually makes life miserable. Elementary education cannot guarantee life. Life cannot only be equipped with basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills. I deeply regret my decision 21 years ago. If only I had obeyed word Mom and Dad, I'm sure I can be successful like my friends now. Even I can feel proud because I can be the first teacher for my children.
