Education.co.id The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) formerly known as the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) is an agency non-departmental government of Indonesia which has the task of carrying out government duties in the fields of meteorology, climatology and geophysics.

BMKG History

The history of meteorological and geophysical observations in Indonesia began in 1841 beginning with observations made individually by Dr. Onnen, Head of Hospital in Bogor. Year after year, its activities develop along with the increasingly treated data from weather observations and geophysics.

In 1866, this individual observation activity by the Dutch East Indies Government was inaugurated as a government agency under the name Magnetisch en Meteorologisch Observatory (Magnetic and Meteoriological Observatory) led by Dr. Bergsma.

In the history of its development, BMKG has undergone several name changes. In 1942-1945 the name of the meteorological and geophysical agency was changed to Kisho Kauso Kusho (during the Japanese occupation). After independence, then this agency was divided into two, namely the Bureau of Meteorology which is located in the Headquarters area Supreme Indonesian People's Army and Bureau of Meteorology and Geophysics, under the Ministry of Public Works and Power. Until finally in 1950 Indonesia officially entered as a member of the World Meteorological Organization.

The Bureau of Meteorology and Geophysics was renamed the Institute for Meteorology and Geophysics in 1955. This agency is under the Ministry of Defense. but in 1960 its name was returned to the Bureau of Meteorology and Geophysics under the Ministry of Air Transportation.

In 1965, its name was changed to the Directorate of Meteorology and Geophysics and in 1972 to the Center for Meteorology and Geophysics under the Ministry of Transportation. In 1980 it was renamed the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency.

Through Presidential Regulation No. 61 of 2008, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency changed its name to Badan Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) with permanent status as a Non-Departmental Government Institution.

Position and Duties of BMKG

The organization of the Center for Meteorology and Geophysics Region II was determined by the decision of the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency Ship Number: KEP 005 of 2004 dated October 5, 2004.

• The position of the Regional Center for Meteorology and Geophysics II is the Technical Implementation Unit within the Agency Meteorology and Geophysics which is under and directly responsible to the head of the Meteorological Agency and Geophysics.
• The Center for Meteorology and Geophysics Region II has the task of carrying out observations, data collection and dissemination, processing analysis and forecasts as well as research and cooperation, calibration and services for meteorology, climatology, air quality and geophysics.
• In carrying out its daily duties, the Center for Meteorology and Geophysics Region II administratively fostered by the Main Secretariat and technically operationally fostered by each deputy in accordance with the field his job.
• The organizational structure of the Center for Meteorology and Geophysics Region II Ciputat consists of the Administrative Section, the Observation Division, the Data and Information Sector and the Functional Position Group. In day-to-day, the Center for Meteorology and Geophysics Region II which covers 11 provinces and as a station coordinator in Banten Province.

BMKG General Activities

The following are the general activities of the Center for Meteorology and Geophysics Region II in carrying out their duties, including the following:

• Coordination of observation, data collection and dissemination, processing, analysis and forecasting as well as research and cooperation in the BMKG field.
• Preparation of plans and programs for Balai Besar activities.
• Implementation of research and collaboration, as well as observations in the BMKG field.
• Collecting, processing, analyzing and forecasting areas, as well as disseminating data and information at BMKG midwives. Installation, maintenance, calibration and repair of BMKG equipment and communication stations in its area.
• Evaluation and preparation of reports on Balai activities.
• Implementation of administrative affairs and the Balai's response house.
• The implementation of these general tasks and activities is implemented through the provision of services to support safety aviation and shipping, natural disaster management, air pollution control, agricultural development and procurement food.
