Understanding the Equator, Functions, Creatures, Climate, Characteristics and Countries
Education. Co. ID – This opportunity we will discuss about the Equator, an explanation of the Equator will be described below:
Understanding the Equator
The equator comes from two words, namely line and equator. Lines in mathematics are geometric shapes depicted by moving points. However, in general terms the equator can also represent the meaning of the two words even without the word line in front of it. In English, the equator is known as the equator. When interpreted, the definition of the equator is an imaginary line drawn in the middle of the planet between the two poles and also parallel to the planet's axis of rotation.
Another definition of the equator or the equator is an imaginary line or an imaginary line that divides the earth into two (2) parts, namely the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. The length of the equator is estimated to be about 40,075 km or about 24,905.5 miles. The latitude at the equator is 0 degrees.
Function of the Equator
This equator has the following functions:
- Become a reference used to determine differences in climatic zones on earth.
- It divides the two hemispheres, namely the Southern Hemisphere and the Northern Hemisphere.
- This equator is used as a benchmark to determine the location of a country or place.
Living Creatures Around the Equator
Around the equator there are various creatures. In terms of biodiversity, around the equator there is a lot of diversity. The closer an area is to the equator, the higher the biodiversity will be.
On the other hand, the farther away from the equator, the lower the biodiversity. Indonesia is one that is located around the equator. This can be used as a benchmark to see how the distribution of living things in the area. As we know that climate also has an influence on the distribution of biodiversity in an area.
The temperature and humidity around the equator also affect the conditions of creatures that live in an area. The environmental temperature is determined by the amount of sunlight absorbed by the components that make up an ecosystem. Generally, living things can only survive in a temperature range of 0 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius. The most ideal temperature for the survival of this creature is around 27 degrees Celsius. These temperatures are categorized as warm temperatures.
At the equator, warm temperatures occur throughout the year. This causes the high biodiversity in the area. This condition is the best condition for living things to survive.
At the equator there is also a forest called a tropical rain forest. This tropical rain forest is the most rich in biodiversity. More than 2,500 species of vines grow in the rainforest. Liana grows from a small shrub that grows on the forest floor, it grows tendrils to reach trees and also reach sunlight above the canopy.
Vines grow from tree to tree and also make up 40% of the leaf canopy. This vine rattan has thorns on the underside of its leaves that point back as a handle for saplings.
The animals that live in this tropical rain forest include Butterflies, Snakes, Boa Constrictors, Green Tree Pythons, Crocodiles, Caimans / Alligators, Frogs, Blue Poison Dart Frogs, Giant Monkey Frogs, Green Poison Dart Frog, Panamanian Golden Frog, Tomato Frog, Angelfish, Beetle, Clear Winged Butterfly, Dragonfly, Owl Butterfly, Millipede Caterpillar, Praying Mantis, Ivory Langur, Monkey, Parrot African Grey, Hornbill, Black Parrot, Double Whip Cassowary, Gold Neck Cassowary, Bluwok Heron, Motmot, Nicobar Pigeon, Parrot, Peacock, Rainbow Parrot, Red Parrot, Rhinoceros Hornbill, Scarlet Ibis, Scarlet Macaw, Swainson's Toucan, Toucan, Yellow Cockatoo, Lizard, Anole, Chameleon, Fijian Iguana, Gorilla, Lemur, Ape, Orangutan, Tiger, Ocelot, Buffalo, Pig Deer, Bat, Capybara, Raccoon, Elephant, Eater Giant Ant, River Otter, Malayan Tapir, Rhinoceros, Tapir, Wild Boar, Green Eyed Gecko, Iguana, Leaf Chameleon, Leaf-Tailed Gecko, Swamp Monitor, Water Monitor, Neon Tetras, Discus, Catfish, Danios, Gurame, fighting fish.
Apart from some of the living things mentioned above, there are many other living things that live around the equator. Because in the area there are still many other biomes that can be a place for living things.
Climate Around the Equator
Based on geographical aspects and physical conditions, the climate around the equator has differences when compared to the northern and southern hemispheres. The area around the equator has a tropical (hot) climate.
The weather conditions on average are hot resulting in the countries in the area having a tropical climate. This climate causes rain which is called tropical rain. For two (2) months this area has an average temperature above 18. These tropical temperatures will remain relatively constant throughout the year, with seasonal variations dominated by precipitation. The tropical climate around the equator lies between 0 – 231 degrees / 2 degrees LU / LS and is almost 40% of the earth's surface.
Tropical Climate Characteristics of the Equator
The tropical climate around the equator has the following characteristics:
- Has a high average temperature. This happens because the sun is vertical. Generally, the air temperature in this tropical climate is 20-23 degrees Celsius. But in some places it has an average temperature of 30 degrees Celsius.
- It has a small annual mean temperature amplitude. At the equator, the average annual temperature amplitude is around 1-5 degrees Celsius, while the daily temperature amplitude is larger.
- Has a low air pressure that changes slowly and regularly.
- Has a large frequency of rain compared to other areas (Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere).
- In the area around the equator, the length of day and night is relatively the same throughout the year.
Countries Crossed by the Equator
Previously, it was explained that the equator serves to divide the hemisphere into two parts, namely the southern hemisphere (BBS) and the northern hemisphere (BBU). This equator also crosses various places on Earth. These places are areas that are in the middle. The part crossed by the equator is mostly ocean. This equator crosses the land and waters of 14 countries. Countries located on the equator are known as the countries of the Equator. Countries located on the equator include:
- Indonesia
- Brazil
- Ecuador
- Somalia
- Kenya
- Colombia
- Gabon
- Maldives
- Kiribati
- Republic of the Congo
- Democratic Republic of the Congo
- Uganda
- Sao Tome and Principe
- Nauru
Now that's an explanation of the definition of the equator, functions, creatures, climate, characteristics and countries, hopefully it can be useful for you, thank you.
