Understanding the production process is an activity or activity that combines various factors of production that exist to create a product, be it goods or services that have benefits for consumers consumer.

The production process is also referred to as the activity or activity of processing raw materials as well as raw materials helper by utilizing equipment so as to produce a product that is more valuable than raw materials initially.

The results of this activity or production activity are goods and services. Goods are things that have physical and chemical properties, and also have a period of time. As for services, it is something that does not have physical and chemical properties, and certainly does not have a time period between production and consumption.

Production Process Purpose

Below are some of the objectives of the production process including the following:

  1. To produce a product (goods/services).
  2. To maintain the survival of a company.
  3. To provide added value / value to a product.
  4. To be able to benefit so that the desired level of prosperity will be achieved.
  5. To replace a product that is damaged, expired, or has run out.
  6. To be able to meet market demand, both from the domestic and international markets.

Production Process Characteristics

In the process of managing activities or production activities there are certain characteristics. Below are some of the characteristics based on the process, nature, and also the time period:

1. By Process

Direct production, this activity or activity includes primary production as well as secondary production. Primary production, is a production activity taken from nature directly. For example, agriculture, mining, fisheries, and so on. As for secondary production, is a production process by adding more value to an existing item. For example, wood to make houses, steel to make bridges, and so on.
Indirect production is an activity or production activity by providing the results of expertise or services. For example, mechanic services, health services, consulting services, and so on.

2. Based on the Nature of the Production Process

Extractive process is an activity or production activity by taking products directly from nature.
The analytical process is an activity or production activity that separates a product into more parts with a form that is similar to the original.
The fabrication process is an activity or activity to change a raw material into a new product.
Synthetic process, namely the activity or activity of combining several materials into a product form. This process is also known as assembly.

3. Based on Production Period

Continuous production, is a production that uses various facilities to be able to create products continuously. This process is usually on a large scale and is not affected by time and season.
Intermittent production, is a production whose activities or activities are carried out not every time, depending on the season, orders, and other factors.

Types of Production Process

In practice, the process requires different times, depending on the level, some are short, and some are quite long. Based on the method of implementation, the production process can be divided into four (4) types, namely:

1. Short-term Production

This is a production activity that is fast and also directly produces products (goods/services) for consumers. For example, the production of food such as toast, cakwe, fried foods, and others.

2. Long-Term Production

This is an activity or production activity that takes a long time. For example, planting rice, growing coffee, building houses, and so on.

3. Continuous Production

This is an activity or production activity that performs the processing of various raw materials by gradually until it becomes a finished product, which is a continuous process continuously. For example, factories that produce paper, sugar, rubber, and so on.

4. Alternating Production

This is an activity or production activity that processes raw materials by combining them into a finished product. For example, the process of making a motorcycle, where each part is produced separately (steering wheel, tires, engine, exhaust, and others). The process of combining the parts will then produce a motorcycle.

Now that's the explanation as follows Production Process: Definition, Types, Characteristics and Examples, hopefully it can be useful for you.
