Tapis Bone: Definition, Shape, Characteristics and Function - What is meant by sieve bones? This bone is located in the head or skull. To find out more, let's look at the discussion in the article below.
Tapis Bone: Definition, Form, Characteristics and Function
Tapis bone is one of the bones that make up the skeleton of the head or skull. The sieve bone or ethmoid bone (Os ethmoidale) is a bone in the head that is located in front of the wedge bone and between the eye bones. The sieve bones are small, flat, and consist of 2 pieces. The function of the sieve bone is to form the back wall of the curve of the eye, playing an important role in helping the human vision process and also maintaining the health of the nasal cavity.
The head skeleton or skull is the bones of the head which play an important role in protecting the brain organ which regulates all the nervous system and other systems in a person's body. If there is an injury to the head, it is possible that several disorders will occur.
Characteristics of Tapis Bones
The following are special characteristics of the sieve bone that differentiate it from other bones in the head:
Flat Shaped
The sieve bone has a flat shape. Flat bones are bones that are flat in shape. Sometimes these sieve bones look like small plates. As a flat bone, the sieve bone is composed of two layers of compact bone.
The size is not wide
Although other flat bones are generally wide, this is not the case with sieve bones. This is because its position is limited between the eyes, so the sieve bone is not wide at all.
Two in total
There are 2 sieve bones, namely on the side of the right eye and the left eye. These two sieve bones will connect the eyes and protect them from any threat of damage. Thus, the sieve bone is recognized as a quite important bone.
Located between the two eyes
The filter bone is between your eyes. So its existence and function are closely related to the health and maintenance of the eye organs.
Function of sieve bones
The functions of the sieve bones include:
Forms a curved back wall of the eye
The eye has a cavity-like part that keeps it stored and located. The back wall of the eye is apparently formed from various layers of flat bone. For this reason, if the back wall of the eye is injured, it is possible that the sieve bone sends a signal to the head which is responded to as a headache around the eye area.
Maintaining Nasal Cavity Health
The nasal cavity is a cavity in the nose that often causes sinusitis. The sieve bone between the eyes also protects the health of the nasal cavity. So that diseases in the nasal cavity such as sinusitis can be prevented. By preventing sinusitis, you can also prevent vertigo, which is a type of headache that may occur due to balance problems during a sinusitis flare-up.
Protects the Structure of the Eye Organs
As is known, the eyes are an important organ located in the head. If its presence is not maintained, the eye organs may cause health problems such as headaches. Because there is a connection between headaches and the eyes. For this reason, the sieve bone functions to protect the eyes from structural disorders that might cause headaches.
Place of Blood Cell Formation
The flat shape of the sieve bone makes it easier for the formation of blood cells in the surrounding blood vessels. For this reason, maintain healthy bones to help increase blood cell formation.
