Understanding the Food Chain
The food chain is a pathway for transferring energy from one trophic level to the next trophic level. By going through the event of eating and being eaten, herbivores get energy by eating plants.
When herbivores are preyed upon by carnivores, the energy will be transferred and so on. The shorter the food chain, the greater the energy stored by organisms at the end of the food chain.
Based on the type of organism or producer at the first trophic level. And there are two types of food chains, including the grazing food chain and the detritus food chain. The food chain which then starts from producer organisms or green plants is also called the grazing food chain.
Meanwhile, an example of a grazing food chain is rice => grasshopper => frog => snake. Meanwhile, the food chain starts from detritus or fragments of dead organisms and also what is called the detritus food chain is leaf debris or trash => earthworms => ducks => man.

There are several types of food chains, and ecological scientists who recognize the three main types of food chains include the following.
1. Predatory Chain
In the predator chain there is a primary producer base. The predator chain itself starts from animals that have the characteristics of consumers I, and then continues with carnivorous animals that prey herbivorous animals become consumers II, and then it will end with carnivorous or herbivorous predatory animals becoming consumers III or IV. An example of a predator food chain is as follows.
2. Parasite Chain
The chain of parasites starts from large organisms to organisms that live only as parasites. Examples of parasitic organisms are bacteria, worms and parasites. An example of a parasite food chain is as follows.
3. Saprophytic Chain
The saprophytic chain starts from dead organisms to decomposing bodies, for example fungi and bacteria. An example of a saporic food chain is as follows.
