Types of Social Control and Their Explanations (Complete) – In the previous discussion we discussed the meaning of social control and its characteristics. In this discussion, we will discuss the types of social control themselves.

The following will be explained based on certain aspects.
Types of Social Control
Based on implementation time, the types of social control can be divided into three types, namely:
1. Preventive Action
It is an action carried out by the authorities before social deviation occurs and so that an act of violation can be prevented. For example, there are outreach activities carried out by related agencies about the dangers of narcotics etc.
2. Repressive Actions
It is an active action carried out by the authorities when social deviation occurs so that the deviation that is being carried out can be stopped. For example: A teacher punishes students who come late and don't follow school rules.
3. Curative Action
This action is taken when an act of social deviance has occurred. Where this action is aimed at providing awareness to perpetrators of deviation.
For example: putting drug addicts into rehabilitation to receive guidance.Based on its nature, social control is divided into two types, namely:
1. Internal control
What is done by the government or ruler as the holder of power to run its government through political strategies.
2. External Control
Done by the people to the rulers. This was done because of irregularities committed by those in power. This social control can be carried out through demonstrations, demonstrations and other actions.
Based on the method or treatment, can be divided into two, namely:
1. Persuasive Action
Preventive measures are carried out using a non-coercive and peaceful approach. Example: BP teacher gives advice to students who smoke
2. Coercive Action
The type of action carried out by means of coercion. Example: Control of street vendors by Satpol PP.
Based on the perpetrator, social control is divided into four types.
1. Personal Control
Namely the influence that comes from a person or figure, where this influence can be good or bad.
2. Institutional Control
Namely the influence resulting from the existence of an institution or institutions.
3. Official Influence
Namely supervision or social control carried out by an official institution in a country in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and clear sanctions.
4. Unofficial Control
Social control is carried out without certain clear rules and without strict sanctions. Sanctions given are in the form of moral sanctions from society, for example being ostracized or expelled from the environment where they live.
