Understanding the Middle Brain, Structure, Function and How it Works - On this occasion Regarding Knowledge will discuss Understanding the Middle Brain. In this discussion, we explain the meaning of the midbrain, its structure, parts, functions and how it works briefly and clearly. For more details, see the following article about the meaning of middle-aged people.

Understanding the Middle Brain, Structure, Function and How it Works

An important part of the human body which functions as a relay station for vision (visual) and auditory information, namely the midbrain or middle brain. For more details, see the explanation below:

Understanding the Middle Brain

The midbrain or mesencephalon, also known as the middle brain, is the smallest part of the human brain. Judging from the name, the location of the midbrain is certainly in the middle of the brain, specifically at the brainstem or above the brainstem and the cereberum or below the cerebrum. The main function of the midbrain is as a relay station for audio (hearing) and visual (vision) information.

Midbrain Function

The following are several functions of the midbrain, including:

  • The midbrain also has a role in muscle movement
  • The main function of the midbrain is as a relay station for auditory (audio) and visual (visual) information.
  • The middle brain also functions as a regulator of responses to stimuli related to sensory information. Like when your hand touches something hot, the brain automatically adjusts to move away from the heat center.
  • Play a role in developing innovation and creativity abilities
  • Improves memory and makes a person able to learn in a shorter time
  • Increases intuitive grasping power.

Therefore, by carrying out the functions of the central brain, intelligence can be trained to increase.

Sharpening the Work of the Middle Brain

The midbrain or middle brain can work well when a person is 5 – 15 years old. There are several methods that are very useful for sharpening the work of the midbrain, namely using BFR (Blindfold Reading) and KIR 9Kinesiologic Imagination Program.

  • BFR (Blindfold Reading Method) is a method applied by someone using a learning method with their eyes closed.
  • KIR (Kinesiologic Imagination Program Method) is a method commonly used by Japan. Usually this method is used to overcome a person's life crisis.

How the midbrain works

The following are the stages of how the midbrain works, including:

  • The midbrain starts from the arrival of impulses from the spinal cord and peripheral nerves
  • Then the spinal cord and peripheral nerves send impulses to the cerebrum as the center for controlling the limbs
  • Next, impulses will be sent through the brain stem, namely as a bridge between the cerebellum and the cerebrum.
  • Then in the brainstem there is the Varoli pons or Varoli bridge which is located in front of the cerebellum which is responsible for transmitting impulses from the cerebrum.
  • Next, the impulse will be responded to according to the circumstances where the response is aimed

Apart from the method used, age greatly influences the functioning of the midbrain.

Structure and Parts of the Middle Brain (Midbrain)

The midbrain consists of 2 main parts, namely Tegmentum and Tectum. The explanation is as follows:

  1. Tegmentum

The tegmentum is a multi-synaptic network, this network is involved in the system of homeostasis (balance) and the body's reflex pathways. The function of the tegmentum is to organize consciousness which consists of several structures, namely:

  • Red Nuclei (Red Nuclei)

The red nucleus is a part of the tegmentum which has an important role in regulating coordination of body movements.

  • Substantia nigra

The substantia nigra is found where the tegmentum stretches, where the tegmentum contains the red nucleus which regulates motor function. The substantia nigra is a dark structure containing many neurons that produce dopamine. This part plays a role in controlling body movements.

  1. Tectum

The tectum consists of 2 (two) pairs of colliculi which together are called the Corpora Quadrigemina:

  • Superior colliculi are colliculi that play a role in early visual processing and controlling eye movements.
  • Inferior Colliculi are colliculi that play a role in the hearing process.
  1. Cerebral peduncle (cerebral peduncle)

The cerebral peduncle or cerebral peduncle is a nerve bundle consisting of sensory and motor nerves that carries information between the cerebrum and the pons.

That's the explanation about Understanding the Middle Brain, Structure, Function and How it Works, Hopefully it can be useful and broaden your insight.
