Social Disorganization
Disorganization is fading or weakening of social norms and values in society due to social and cultural changes. The manifestation of disorganization is the emergence of unwanted social problems.
Social problems are deviations from social norms and values in general. A social problem is the special social roles that individuals have in society on the basis of tradition or birth and also roles based on gender differences which are undergoing a process of change shakiness.
The processes in question include:
- Issues that are closely related to community organizations. Fissures occur in community organizations such as kinship, neighborhood and others.
- There is a division of labor caused by the increasing specialization of work fields so that it requires workers who have special skills.
- Activities to fill free time. Usually in the form of activities related to certain hobbies or types of recreation.
- Unemployment is also common in societies that have just modernized, especially industrialization.
Cultural Gaps and Social Disintegration
Social changes that occur in society can cause imbalance (disequilibrium) social relations. This happens because there are elements in society that are changing rapidly.
However, some elements that change quickly are closely related to elements that change very slowly. This situation is called cultural gap (cultural lag).
Changes that occur in society are not always followed by reactions from the social system that are adaptive (adjustive), meaning that these changes are not always accompanied by adjustments that society experiences social disintegration.
In a state of disintegration, balance, harmony and harmony in social relations no longer experience peace and order. They face conflicts or contradictions resulting from differences in perceptions between residents regarding existing social values and norms.
Social disintegration begins with the following symptoms:
- There is no similarity in views between members of society regarding the common goals that they originally used as a guide or benchmark.
- Community norms can no longer function well as a tool of social control to achieve community goals.
- There is conflict between norms in society.
- Sanctions against members who violate norms are not implemented consistently.
- The actions of community members are no longer in accordance with applicable norms.
- Social processes that are dissociative in nature (attempts to separate oneself) occur, such as competition, conflict or controversy.
Forms of Social Disintegration in Society
Forms of social disintegration in society include:
- Crime
- Regional upheaval
- Protest (demonstration)
- Juvenile delinquency
