Understanding NIC, Repeater, HUB, and Access Point and their Functions – To be able to surf freely on the internet network, we have to ensure that the network that connects computers or electronic devices that can connect to the internet is functioning properly.

Understanding NIC, Repeater, HUB, and Access Point and their Functions

Understanding NIC
NIC or Network Interface Card is a card that functions as a bridge between computers to enter a computer network. The NIC's working system is to convert the flow of parallel data packets on the computer bus into serial data so that it can be transmitted over the network media.
NIC Functions
NIC or Network Interface Card has the following functions:
- Becomes a medium that can send data to other computers using a network.
- Can receive data sent from another computer via cable and can translate it into bits that the computer can understand.
Understanding Repeaters
A repeater is a computer network tool whose job is to expand the range of WIFI signals that are not yet covered by signals originating from the server to be able to capture WIFI signals. A Repeater device must have two tools, namely to be able to receive server or client signals and also to be able to spread WIFI signals or access points again, or also to be used as a signal booster.
Repeater Function
Repeaters have their own functions, namely:
- To be able to extend the range of the server or transmitter signal.
- To be able to cover areas that have a weak signal from the server or transmitter.
- To make it easier to access WIFI signals originating from the server.
Understanding HUB
HUB is a network device that works at OSI Layer 1, Physical Layer. The hub not only works as a connector or in the form of a concentrator but can strengthen the signal in the UTP or Unshielded Twisted-Pair cable. The hub cannot recognize MAC Addressing or Physical Addressing so it cannot differentiate data that must be transmitted and make collisions unavoidable for the Hub user the.
Hub Function
The hub has functions including:
- Can increase network distance, can also be a repeater.
- Can offer features that are fault tolerance or damage isolation.
- Can facilitate the addition of removers or can also add workstations.
- Can provide or provide facilities by supporting different interfaces.
- Can provide concentrated management or collection of information, diagnostics.
Understanding Access Points
Access Point is a device that can be used to create a wireless connection on a computer network.
Access Point Function
An access point functions as a network device to create a computer network without cables.
