Shape of the Earth
The shape of the earth's surface in the form of land is not evenly distributed, but inside it varies in shape land, high land, hill protrusions, low land, mountains, or in the form of valleys, rivers, canyons or basin. Depictions of the forms on the face of the earth can be depicted using two types of maps that is, you can use a regular map which generally will have colors or you can also use a map special.
The shape which is the appearance of the earth's surface can be distinguished from the shape of the earth's surface on land (including rivers and bodies of water on other land) and can also be the shape of the earth ocean. The depiction can also use symbols that cannot be displayed properly.
Forms of the Earth's Surface
The following are the forms of the earth's surface which are differentiated based on:
Mainland
What is meant by land is divided into several categories as follows:
Lower Mainland
This land can generally be identified in the form of land relief which has a height between 0 – 400 m.
Highlands
This land can generally be identified in the form of land relief which has a height of between 400 – 1,000 m above sea level.
Mountains or Hills
The land in this area can be identified as land that has a slope angle relatively larger when compared to land which has a height of more than 1,000 m above sea level.
Lakes, Swamps and Reservoirs
A lake is a large area of land whose area is flooded with water. Swamps are land that is inundated with water which is generally located in low areas or usually in coastal areas. A reservoir is a form of lake made by humans.
River
A river is a path or reservoir through which water flows from upstream to downstream. These generally have springs or in the form of headwaters that are in mountainous areas or on higher land and ultimately empty into the ocean.
Mountain
Mountains are a form of earth relief that has a prominent shape. Which is generally also at an altitude of more than 1,000 m.
City
In urban areas or in residential areas there are highways and there is a capital.
Ocean
We can see this ocean on the map with the symbol blue. There are several forms in the ocean, including:
Shallow
In the form of a seabed that slopes towards the ocean with a depth of more than 200 m.
Slope
The slope is a seabed that has a depth of around 200 – 400 m in the form of a continuation of the shallows.
Ocean Trenches
A sea trench is the bottom of the sea that has a depth of more than 5,000 m which is steep, narrow, deep and elongated.
Deep Sea
The seabed is a form of seabed that is concave in shape.
Sea Mountain
Seamounts are a form of mountain that emerges from the sea to the surface with its feet at the bottom of the ocean.
Sea Ridge
Sea ridges are hills at the bottom of the ocean which, if they could rise to the surface of the sea, could become islands.
Sea Threshold
The sea threshold is a form of shallow seabed that separates two different oceans that are equally deep.
Landforms in Indonesia
Earth forms in Indonesia include:
- The western part is also called the Sunda Shelf.
- The Central part is also called the Austral – Asiatic Mediterranean Sea.
- The eastern part is also called the Sahul Shoal.
