√ Definition of Invertebrates, Characteristics, Phylums and Examples
Definition of Invertebrates, Characteristics, Phylums and Examples - On this occasion About Knowledge will discuss about the definition of Invertebrates. Which in this discussion explains the meaning of invertebrates, their characteristics, phyla and their examples briefly and clearly. For more clarity and easy to understand see the article below.
Definition of Invertebrates, Characteristics, Phylums and Examples
Invertebrates can also be called Invertebrates, which are types of animals that do not have vertebrae or backbones or other bones in their bodies. There are some who have hard skin to protect the body and some are soft-bodied.
Invertebrate animals have a framework that builds the body which is commonly called the outer skeleton, meaning that the skeleton of this invertebrate animal is located on the outside of the invertebrate body. The exoskeleton functions to form and protect the bodies of vertebrate animals, which are generally soft-bodied.
Phylum Invertebrates
There are eight phyla that can be included in the classification of inverterbrates or invertebrates, namely:
Annelida, Arthropoda, Coelenterata, Echinodermata, Mollusca, Nemathelminthes, Platyhelminthes and Porifera.
Invertebrate characteristics
The following are some of the characteristics of invertebrate or invertebrate animals, including:
In general, the main characteristic of invertebrates is that they do not have a backbone or backbone.
Invertebrates are multicellular organisms that do not have a cell wall.
Invertebrates do not have a hard endoskeleton.
Because they do not have a complex bone system, some invertebrates are small and slow in nature.
Invertebrates cannot live in a number of environmental conditions because they lack a complex nervous system and backbone.
Invertebrates live in various parts of the world in a variety of habitats
The body is divided into three parts namely head, thorax and abdomen.
Invertebrates do not have lungs for respiration and breathe through the skin.
Several groups of invertebrates have a hard exoskeleton of chitin, most of them have tissues, with a certain cell organization.
Most of them reproduce sexually by the fusion of male and female gametes.
Some of these invertebrates are like sedentary sponges, but most of the organisms are motile.
Most of these invertebrates are arranged with a symmetrical body organization and cannot make their own food, in other words, are heterotrophs.
Examples of Invertebrates
The most diverse organisms that exist on earth with nearly 95% of the animal population are invertebrates. Research results from the International Union on Nature Conservation in 2009 were more than 1,300,000 million invertebrates have been identified which cover about 75% of the species on Planets.
While the actual number of invertebrates alone is unknown, there are some predictions that there may be tens of millions of invertebrates, mostly insects.
The following are examples of invertebrates, including: honey bees, crickets, stick insects, earthworms, termites, cockroaches, Mantis, Ants, Spiders, Crustaceans, Grasshoppers, Centipedes, Wasps, Crab, Sponges, Starfish, Leeches and others etc.
Examples of Invetebrata Each Phylum
Filim Chordata is not included in Invetebrata animals, generally such as examples of spiders, carcasses, star fish, octopuses, snails, clams and cockroaches.
- Mollusca – Chiton (Chaetopleura), squid (Loligo), apple snail (Pila), devil fish (Octopus), Aplysia (sea hare), pearl oysters (Pinctada), cuttlefish (Sepia), Dentalium;
- Porifera – Sponges, scypha (Sycon), freshwater sponges (Spongilla) and bath sponges (Euspongia);
- Arthropods – Mosquitoes – Anopheles, Culex and Aedes, grasshoppers (Locusta), honey bees (Apis), caterpillars (Bombyx), Laccifer (lac insects); crab (Limulus);
- Cnidaria – Aurelia, Adamis, sea anemone, Physalia (Portuguese warship), Hydra, Pennatula, Gorgonia, Meandrina;
- Echinoderms – starfish (Asterias), sea lily (Antedon), sea cucumber (Cucumaria), sea urchin (Echinus), brittle star (Ophiura).
- Ctenophora – Pleurobranchia also Ctenophora;
- Platyhelminthes – tapeworms (Taenia), liver flukes (Fasciola);
- Aschelminthes – filarial worms (Wuchereria), hookworms (Ancylostoma), round worms (Ascaris);
- Annelida – Nereis, earthworms (Pheretima) and blood-sucking leeches (Hirudinaria).
Thus the explanation about Definition of Invertebrates, Characteristics, Phylums and Examples, hopefully it can be useful and add to your insight.
