Upper Bone Function: Parts, Structure and Discussion – What is the function of the upper bones? On this occasion About the knowledge.co.id will discuss it, covering the structure and of course other things that also cover it. Let's look at the discussion together in the article below to better understand it

Upper Bone Function: Parts, Structure and Discussion

The upper bone is the bone in the upper arm which has a function as a place for the main muscles to attach to the arm and the movement of the elbow.

The upper bone is larger than the ulna and ulna. The main muscles in the arm will be attached and controlled by the upper bones.

The upper bone is also called the humerus bone. The muscles attached to the upper bones are the pectoralis primary and the deltoid, so the upper bones are important for arm and shoulder movement.

Upper Bone Muscles

The following are the muscles attached to the upper bones:

  • Lateral epicondyle

    • Extensor carpi radialis brevis muscle
    • The extensor carpi ulnaris muscle
    • The extensor digiti minimi muscle
    • The extensor digitorum muscle
    • Supinator muscle

  • Medial epicondyle

    • Flexor carpi radialis muscle
    • Flexor carpi ulnaris muscle
    • The flexor digitorum superficialis muscle
    • Palmaris longus muscle
    • The pronator teres muscle
  • Sulcus intertubercularis

    • Latissimus dorsi muscle
    • pectoralis major muscle
    • The teres major muscle
  • Tuberculum majorus and tubercle minus (rotator cuff muscles)

    • Infraspinatus muscle
    • Subscapularis muscle
    • supraspinatus muscle
    • The teres minor muscle

Parts of the Upper Arm Bone

Anatomically, the humerus bone or upper arm bone can be divided into three parts:

  • The top of the humerus
  • Corpus humerus (body of humerus)
  • The lower part of the humerus

The head of the humeral humerus (caput humeri) articulates with the glenoidal cavity of the scapula. This connection is known as the shoulder joint which has a wide range of motion. This joint has two bursae, namely the subacromial bursa and the subscapularis bursa.

The subacromial bursa lines the supraspinatus and deltoid muscles. The subscapularis bursa separates the subscapularis fossa from the tendon of the subscapularis muscle. The rotator cuff muscles help stabilize this joint.

At the elbow, there is a joint with the ulna that allows flexion and extension. This movement occurs in the trochlea humerus. There are two depressions at the lower end of the humerus, namely the coronoid fossa and the olecrani fossa.

Structure of the Upper Bone

Indeed, anatomically, the upper bone is also divided into three parts. The upper bones that you need to know are the top of the humerus, the body of the humerus and also the bottom of the humerus. The shape of this bone is indeed round and long, but has a cavity. This bone is also still included in the type of tubular bone even though the function of the upper bone is different.

Upper bone structure

This upper bone can also be likened to having a shape like a stick. You can see the head of the joint which is also connected to the shoulder. This upper bone has a different structure from the normal bone and tends to be smooth, surrounded by the presence of a scapula. At the top end it does have a slightly enlarged shape, and at the bottom it also has two indentations.

This indentation has become a place for the radius and ulna bones to attach.

By having a very important function for the movement of the upper arm, it's no wonder that upper bone function is something you should know. This upper bone has many functions, both for human movement and for the bones and muscles that are owned by humans, especially for the human upper part.

Upper Bone Function in the Arm

  • Upper limb bones

The function of the first upper bone is as a bone used as a limb, especially for the upper arm. These upper bones also work together and help each other with other bones. This upper bone is also included, forming the locomotion apparatus at the top of the human body.

  • Elbow and shoulder drive

Not only as a member of the movement in the upper arm, but the function of the upper bone is to become an assistant in the movement of the elbow. Later also the elbows and shoulders both get support, from the upper bones.

  • Place of attachment of muscles

All existing muscles will be attached to the upper bone. It also has its own function, where it can support all the movements that will be carried out by the upper body. Indeed, not all muscles, but there are some of the most important muscles such as pectoralis, rotator, cuff to deltoid.

  • Supports strength in the arm

Another function that is also owned by the upper bones, is to support the strength of the human body's arms. Various physical activities that are carried out every day, such as lifting a heavy object will definitely require strength from the arms. This arm bone also has a role, so that it can provide strength in activities.

  • Connecting swivel joints

With various functions of the upper bones, the function for this one upper bone can also be used as a connecting link for the swivel joint. You can find this swivel joint on the arm.

  • Connects the forearm bones and the wristband on the shoulder

As one part of the upper limb bones, the function of the upper bones in the arm is to connect the shoulder girdle to the lower arm bones in the human body.

Upper Bone Function: Parts, Structure and Discussion
  • For Extension and Flexion Movements

    • Movement Extension is a motion to straighten.
    • Flexion Movement is a motion to bend (bend).
  • For Rotational and Abduction Movements

    • Abduction movements are movements away from the body.
    • Adduction movement is a movement closer to the body.
    • Rotational Movement is a circular or twisting motion

So by doing rotational and abduction movements it can make the rotator cuff muscles in the upper arm bones more flexible.
