Closing Prayer: Propositions, Prayer Manners and Its Virtue

In an event, when opening and closing the program, it should be accompanied by prayer. Actually saying basmalah before starting and ending it with hamdalah is enough. However, it would be better to offer a prayer to be blessed by Allah.

In Arabic an event is called a assembly. Assembly comes from the word "jalasa - yajlisu" which means to sit. In language, the assembly means a place to sit, where the word assembly is used to indicate various kinds of meetings between groups or people who have the same interests.

In essence, the closing prayer or closing prayer is the same thing. The kafaratul majlis prayer or the closing prayer is not only recited when closing the event. The kafaratul majlis prayer or the closing prayer can be read to end everything. Including finishing group studies, coming home from school, even finishing writing a thesis, it's good to read this prayer.

In a Tirmidhi hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah R.A, Rasulullah SAW said:

"Whoever is in an assembly, then in that assembly there are many words that are not useful, then before leaving the assembly, saying this (Kaffaratul Assembly), 'Glory be to You O Allah and all praise be to You, I bear witness that there is no god but You, I beg Your forgiveness.' Unless he has been forgiven what was in the assembly the." (HR. Tirmidhi).

The closing sentence of the event usually ends with an apology from the host and performers if they say something wrong or do something that is not pleasant to the hearts of the invited guests. After that it is continued by praying, then reading hamdalah, then ending with closing greetings.

The prayer in the closing prayer of this event contains asking forgiveness from Allah SWT, for all the sins we have committed. Either intentionally or unintentionally. Closing Prayer Version of the First Event

It is in the hadith of Abu Daud, No. 4859, Ahmad, 4: 425. Abu Thahir Al Hafidz also said that the sanad is hasan.

“Subhaanakallahumma wa bihamdika, Asyhadu allaa ilaaha illa anta, Astaghfiruka wa atuubu ilaik”

Meaning: "Glory to You, O Allah, and by praising You, I testify that there is no god worthy of worship except You. I ask Your forgiveness and I repent to You."

The second version of Closing Prayer

"Allahummaqsim lanaa min Khosyyatika maa tahuulu bihi baynanaa wa bayna ma'aashik, wa min thoo'atika maa tubalighunaa bihi jannatak, wa minal yaqiini maa tuhawwinu 'alaynaa mashooibad dunya."

“Allahumma matti'na bi asmaa'inaa wa abshorina, wa quwwatinaa maa ahyyaytanaa, waj'alhul waaritsa minnaa, waj'al Tsa'rona 'ala man zholamanaa, wan-shurnaa 'alaa man 'aadaanaa, wa laa taj'al mushibatanaa fii diininaa wa laa taj'alid dunyaa Akbara hamminaa, wa laa mablagho 'ilminaa, wa laa tusallith 'alaynaa mallaa yarhamunaa."

"O Allah, the Most Merciful God, it is only Your grace and mercy so that all of our activities in this event run smoothly even though it takes time, energy and mind.

And today, O Allah, we are gathered in this place to give thanks to You and at the same time close our activities.

O Allah, bless all our activities while participating in our series of events, and make them as acts of worship by Your side.

For that, O Allah, set Your mercy and compassion on us and make this meeting a meeting that You are pleased with.”

“O Allah, make our affairs easy. Because nothing is easy unless You make it easy."

“O Allah, open for us the doors of goodness, doors of blessings, doors of mercy, doors of strength, doors of retribution, doors of health, doors of safety. Because only You are the Most Gracious and Most Merciful.”

“O Allah, bestow patience upon us, and strengthen our stand against trial and truth.

O Allah, bless all the knowledge that we got during this activity, so that we can practice it after we disperse and go to our respective homes.

So that we can be role models in the family, society, nation and state.”

The Proof of the Hadith Reading the Opening and Closing Prayers

There are several hadiths regarding the closing prayer of this event, namely:

Rasulullah SAW said:

It means :

"Anyone who is in an assembly, then in that assembly there are many words that are not useful, then before leaving the assembly, say this prayer

subhaanakallaahumma wa bihamdika asyhadu allaa ilaaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atuubu ilaika.

Which means 'Glory to You O Allah, and all praise be to You, I testify that there is no god but You. I beg Your forgiveness, and I repent to You, unless it has been forgiven for that person' something that is in the assembly." (HR Tirmidhi)

Rasulullah SAW when he was about to stand up to leave the assembly, he prayed:

"Glory be to You O Allah and all praise be to You, I bear witness that there is no god but You, I beg forgiveness and repentance to You."

Rasulullah SAW said:

"Whoever travels in search of knowledge, Allah SWT will make it easy for him to go to heaven." (Muslim HR)

From Abu Hurairah, he said that Rasulullah SAW said:

"Every people who rise from the assembly that does not remember Allah SWT, then the completion of the assembly is like a dead donkey and only becomes regret on the Day of Resurrection." (Narrated by Abu Dawud)

Rasulullah SAW said:

"Whoever does not ask Allah SWT, then Allah SWT will be angry with him." (HR Tirmidhi)

From Aisha RA, she said:

The Prophet SAW did not sit in the assembly, nor did he read the Qur'an and did not pray unless he closed it with these sentences. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I see you don't sit in an assembly, don't even read the Qur'an and don't pray unless you close with that sentence?"

Then, Rasulullah SAW said: "Yes, whoever says good, it will be closed with a stamp of goodness, and whoever says bad, it will be the eraser of his sins. Namely subhanakallahumma wabihamdika asyhadu an laa ilaaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atuubu ilaika." (HR An – Nasa'i)

Allah SWT says in QS Al - Mu'min verse 60:

The content is to pray and ask only to Him, then Allah SWT will allow it for His servants.
