- The Garuda bird was chosen as the national symbol because it symbolizes strength, this country will always be strong under any circumstances.
- The golden colored Garuda Pancasila symbolizes a triumph.

- On the tail there are 8 pieces
- Under the shield there are 19 pieces
- On the neck there are 45 pieces.
This symbolizes the date of the proclamation of independence of the Republic of Indonesia, namely August 17, 1945 (17-8-1945)
- On Garuda's neck hangs a shield which symbolizes Pancasila:
- Star: Belief in the one and only God
- Steel chain: Just and civilized humanity
- Banyan Tree: The unity of Indonesia
- Bull Head: Democracy led by wisdom in deliberations/representations
- Rice and cotton: Social justice for all the people of Indonesia.
- The line across the shield drawn in bold symbolizes that Indonesia is traversed by the equator.
- The national symbol of the Republic of Indonesia Garuda Pancasila was designated as the state symbol in Government Regulation No. 66 of 1951 on October 17, 1951.
- The Garuda Pancasila bird's foot grips a ribbon that bends upwards. On the map there is an inscription "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” that comes from the book Sutasoma essay Master Tantular.
