For more details, please see the review below carefully.

Definition of the Sea

The sea is a large and wide collection of salt water on the surface of the earth and is connected to the ocean, separated from and/or connected to a continent with continents and/or islands with other islands. Seawater is composed of a mixture of 96.5% pure water and 3.5% other materials such as salts, dissolved gases, organic matter and insoluble particles.

Important physical properties of sea water are determined by 96.5% pure water. But the sea water in the world has a different salt content. The freshest seawater is in the eastern Gulf of Finland and north of the Gulf of Bothania, and is also part of the Baltic Sea. While the one with the saltiest sea water is located in the Red Sea.

The true taste of sea water is that it comes from the land. When it rains on the land, the water will seep into the ground and then come out through the ground into the river until it reaches the sea.

When on the way to the sea, the water that comes from the land contains minerals so that the sea is filled with mineral salts. So why is seawater salty? Because when the sea water evaporates, only the water evaporates but the mineral salts contained in it do not make the sea water taste salty.

The level of saltiness of sea water is due to the influence of temperature, that is, the hotter an area is, the saltier the sea water will be.

Marine History

Historically, seas formed around 4.4 billion years ago, which is where it started it is very acidic with water boiling at about 100°C due to the heat of the Earth at that time.

The acidity of sea water occurs because at that time the Earth's atmosphere was filled with a lot of carbon dioxide. The acidity of this water is the cause of high weathering and makes the sea salty to this day.

At that time, Tsunami waves often appeared because of the large number of asteroids that hit the Earth. The sea tides that occurred at that time were also of the mammoth type or very high due to the distance of the Moon which is so close to Earth.

Sea Types

There are several types of sea, namely:

According to the Occurrence Process

According to the process of occurrence, the sea is divided into three namely:

  • Transgression Sea
The transgression sea is a sea that is made because there is a positive change in sea level (by expanding). This surface change occurs because there is a rise in sea level or because the land is sinking, making some low land areas the reason for sea water to inundate it. The change occurred in the ice age. Examples of transgression seas include the Java Sea, Arafuru Sea, and the North Sea.
  • Sea of Ingression
Sea of Ingression is a sea that occurs due to subsidence of land on the seabed. Making this sea also known as the descending land sea. The subsidence of the land on the seabed will create ocean basins and ocean trenches.
Sea depths or basins are subsidence on the seafloor that are rounded. Examples of oceanic depths are the Sulu, Sulawesi, and Caribbean depths.
While the Sea Trench or trog is a decrease in the sea floor that is elongated. Examples of ocean trenches include the Mendanau Trench with a depth of 1,085m, the Sunda Trench with a depth of 7,450 m and the Mariana Trench with a depth of 10,683 (the deepest trench in the world).
  • Regression Sea
Regression sea is a type of sea that is narrowing. This narrowing can exist because there is deposition due to rocks such as sand, mud and others that are carried by rivers that flow into the sea. This narrowing of the sea is often found on the north coast of the island of Java.

According to Location

According to its location, the sea is categorized into three types or types, including:

  • Edge Sea
The coastal sea is the sea which is located on the edge of the continent (continent) and seems to be separated from the vast ocean by land islands or peninsulas. An example of a marginal sea is the South China Sea, which is separated by the Indonesian archipelago and the Philippine Islands.
  • Medieval Sea
The Mediterranean Sea is a sea that is located between the continents. The sea is deep and has a cluster of islands. Examples of the Mediterranean include the continents of Africa-Asia and Europe.
  • Inland Sea
The inland sea is a sea that is almost entirely surrounded by land. An example of an inland sea is the Black Sea.

According to Depth

According to its depth, the sea is divided into four zones or regions, namely:

  • Lithoral Zone
The lithoral zone is a coastal or coastal area. In this area when the tide is inundated with water and when the tide is turned into land. For this reason, this area is often referred to as the Tidal Region.
  • Neritic zone
The Neritic zone is a tidal zone boundary line to a depth of 150 m. In this zone it can still be penetrated by sunlight so that in this area there are at most various types of life, both animals and plants.
  • Bathyal Zone
The Bathyal Zone is a sea area that has depths between 150 – 1800 m. This region is impenetrable to sunlight, for that the life of the organism is not as abundant as that of the Neritic region.
  • Abyssal Zone
The abyssal zone is a sea area that has a depth of more than 1800 m. In that area the temperature is very cold and there is no vegetation. Types of animals that can live in this area are very rare.

Sea Benefits

There are benefits of the sea for life, namely:

  • For recreation and entertainment facilities
  • For power generation
  • For a place to live all kinds of food sources
  • For the location of mining goods
  • For water transportation
  • For one place to store water reserves
  • To be a place of livelihood for fishermen
  • To absorb carbon dioxide (co2)
  • As a world climate controller
