Newton's Law: Definition and Example Questions - What is Newton's Law? On this occasion Seputartahu.co.id will discuss what Newton's laws are and other things about them. Let's look at the discussion together in the article below to understand it better.

Newton's Laws: Definition and Example Problems

Newton's laws are three basic formulations of classical mechanics that provide a description of the forces acting on an object and the motion they cause. Also called the monumental law of motion, developed in Isaac Newton's own book, namely Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy (The Principia).

Newton's law is one of the rules applied in physics. A moving object cannot be explained logically, but if you use Newton's laws you can calculate its speed and distance. Objects falling from top to bottom, or the movement of objects from one point to another point can mean that the object is moving or changing places.

Newton's 1st Law

"If the resultant force acting on an object is zero, then the object that was initially at rest will remain at rest. An object that initially moves in a uniform straight line will remain in a uniform straight line at a constant speed.”

Newton's 1st Law Formula

The meaning of Newton's 1st law is that an object at rest will remain at rest and will not move until a force (push or pull) is applied. then make it move, and the moving object will continue to move and will stay still if there is a force that influences it to silent.

The formula for Newton's 1st law is ∑F = 0, namely the resultant force (Kg m/s2)

Example of Newton's 1st Law

  • When you get into a fast moving car and then brake, the passenger will be pushed forward.
  • The car is driving slowly and then suddenly steps on the gas and the passengers will lean backwards.
  • If, for example, you place a coin on a cloth and then pull the cloth quickly, the coin will remain.

Newton's Law 2

“The acceleration of an object will be proportional to the number of forces (resultant force) acting on the object and inversely proportional to its mass.

Newton's 2nd Law Formula

The meaning of Newton's 2nd law is that the mass of an object greatly influences the forces in a system. Addition or loss of mass will produce a change. The formula is ∑F = m.a

Information:
∑F = Resultant Force (kg m/s2)
m = Mass of Object (kg)
a = Acceleration (m/s2)

Example of Newton's 2nd Law

  • Pulling a cart transports fertilizer from the house to the field
  • If pulled with the same force, cars with a greater mass (with a load) have a smaller acceleration, whereas If the same car (same mass) is pulled with a greater force, it will experience a greater acceleration also.
  • Dribble the ball on a flat surface

Newton's Law 3

If an object exerts a force on another object, the object being acted upon will exert a force of the same magnitude as the force received from the first object but in the opposite direction."

Newton's Law 3 Formula

There are three formulas for Newton's 3rd law, namely friction, gravity and similar forces.

Friction
Gravity
Similar Style

The formula for Newton's 3rd law can be written as law (f) action – law (f) reaction, which I marked below The yellow box is the friction force formula, the red is the gravity force, and the blue is the weight formula kind.

Example of Newton's Law 3

  • When sitting on a foam chair, your body weight will push the chair down, while the chair will hold your weight up.
  • Throw a ball at a wall and the ball will return with the same force
  • If someone wears roller skates and pushes against a wall, the wall will push the same amount with the force you emit but in the opposite direction, so that the person is pushed away wall.

Examples of Newton's Laws

Question 1.An iron ball has a mass of 100 kg. Then, the iron ball rolls so that it obtains an acceleration force of 9.8 m/s2. How much force is needed to roll the ball?

Discussion

Is known:
m = 100 kg
a = 9.8 m/s2

Asked: F = … ?

Answer:
F = m a
= 100 kg x 9.8 m/s2
= 980 kg m/s2
= 980 N
So, the force required is 980 N.

Question 2. An object has a mass of 1 kg. If the acceleration due to gravity = 10 m/s2, how much does the object weigh?
Discussion
Is known :
Mass of object (m) = 1 kg
Gravitational acceleration (g) = 10 m/s2
Wanted: Weight of object (w)
Answer :
Gravity formula:
w = m g
Information :
m = mass (international unit is kilogram, abbreviated as kg)
g = acceleration due to gravity (international units are meters per second squared, abbreviated as m/s2)
w = gravity (international unit is kg m/s2 aka Newton)
The weight of the object is:
w = (1 kg)(10 m/s2) = 10 kg m/s2 = 10 Newtons

Newton's Laws: Definition and Example Problems

Question 3. A block with a mass of 5 kg (weight w = 50 N) is hung by a rope and tied to the roof. If the block is at rest then what is the tension in the string?

Answer:

The forces acting on the block are as shown in the picture below, because the block is stationary, Newton's first law applies, which is as follows.

So, the tension force in the rope acting on the block is 50 Newtons.
