Definition of Spermatogenesis, Functions, Factors and Processes (Complete) - Breeding is a way to get offspring in humans or animals. Breeding for mammals is by giving birth, some lay eggs, namely birds, reptiles, insects and others.

Definition of Spermatogenesis, Functions, Factors and Processes (Complete)

Humans enter into mammals, namely giving birth and suckling their children. Humans or animals carry out the marriage process to be able to produce offspring. the results of this marriage can produce good or bad quality offspring depending on the process that occurs in it is perfect or has problems.

Sperm are cells in the body of a man or male which when it enters the body of the opposite sex can cause a process which will then become the next offspring. to get to know more about sperm we will discuss below:

What is Spermatogenesis

Spermatogenesis is the process by which sperm cells or immature germ cells develop which we know as spermatogium to become mature sperm and is called spermatozoa.

Spermatozoa are adult male gametes that are present in organisms that reproduce sexually. Spermatogenesis occurs in the seminiferous tubules of the testes which go through a series of stages followed by maturation in the epididymis. When entering the epididymis they are ready to be validated to become semen.

This process can be initiated when entering puberty due to the action of the hypothalamus, pituitary gland and Leydig cells. This process takes place continuously and will end when the human or animal dies. However, the number of sperm produced continues to decrease with age.

Spermatogenesis function

The function of spermatogenesis is to create mature male gametes which can then effectively fertilize female gametes. This process forms a single-celled organism called a zygote which will divide and form a fetus. To be able to have good and healthy offspring, you need a fixed number of chromosomes in the body because failure can cause abnormalities to occur. Spermatogenesis is responsible for preventing this from happening.

Spermatogenesis Factor

There are various factors that influence the process of spermatogenesis and some of them are as follows:

  • The process of spermatogenesis is a process that is very sensitive and easily influenced even though the slightest disturbance occurs in hormone levels.
  • Changes in temperature also affect the sensitivity of this process.
  • Sperm growth rate can occur due to things such as lack of food, use of strong drugs, alcohol and diseases that arise.
  • Oxidative stress can also affect and cause damage to DNA in sperm and cause fertilization that occurs to fail or become problematic.

Spermatogenesis occurs in humans over 2 months. More than 300 million spermatogenesis are produced each day, but will eventually produce 100 million that have matured.

Spermatogenesis Process

The process of spermatogenesis in humans and animals are almost similar and the same. To better understand the process that occurs, it will be explained as follows:

  • First process that is, the original diploid spermatogonia located in the seminiferous tubules have twice the number of chromosomes. Which after replicating mitotically at interphase before the first meiosis can form 46 pairs of sister chromatids.
  • Second process i.e. chromatids that have exchanged genetic information by the process of synapsis, but before the process of dividing their previous information through meiosis to become haploid spermatocytes.
  • Third process namely after going through the second meoisis process and producing two new daughter cells which then divide into 4 spermatids. Spermatids have unique chromosomes that are half the number as the original spermatogonia.
  • Fourth process i.e. after these cells are formed they now go to the lumes to the epididymis where they develop into 4 sperm cells which can grow microtubules on the centrinol, then forms an axoneme, namely the basal body and there are several sntrinols that can elongate to form the sperm tail, and this is facilitated by testosterone.
Definition, function, factors and process of spermatogenesis

It is emphasized that each division in the process is incomplete and the cells are always attached to each other by the cytoplasm to allow concomitant maturation.

Some spermatogonia can replicate themselves instead of turning into spermatids to ensure that the sperm will not run out. The entire process of spermatogenic cells interacts with Sertoli cells which provide nutrition and structural support for them.

Here's an explanation about Definition of Spermatogenesis, Functions, Factors and Processes (Complete) which has been explained above. Spermatogenesis is an important process in human and animal reproduction because it can affect the results of the fertilization process that occurs. Hopefully useful 🙂
