Definition of Biotics, Components and Functions (Full Discussion) – In the environment without us realizing it, there has been a relationship or interaction that occurs continuously every day. Often the changes that are around us are based on the interactions that are generated and have an impact on the surrounding environment.
Definition of Biotics, Components and Functions (Full Discussion)
The interactions that occur are related interactions between organisms or organisms with the surrounding environment. the interactions that occur produce an ecosystem which is an ecological system that occurs as a result of interactions between organisms or with the environment. This interaction occurs with the influence of several components which will be explained below.
Definition of Biotics
Biotic or what is often called the biotic environment is all the environments that consist of components from living things on the surface of the earth. Biotic itself is often referred to as living things or organisms. The biotic component consists of humans, plants and animals.
Biotic Components
This biotic component is divided into 2, namely:
Biotic Components Based on Trophic Levels and Nutrition
The components in biotic are divided based on the trophic level or nutrients they have. The biotic components that occur in the ecosystem are divided into 2 types, namely:
1. Autotrophic Component
Autotrophic components or autotrophic organisms are unicellular organisms and multicellular organisms that they can photosynthesize. Examples of autotrophs are phytoplankton, mosses, algae, ferns and seed plants. When they photosynthesize it will produce carbohydrates and oxygen. Organisms that enter into autotrophs are the most important producers in the ecosystem.
2. Heterotrophic Component
Heterotrophic components or heterotrophic organisms are organisms that utilize organic materials that have been provided by other organisms that are used as food ingredients. Heterotrophs have organisms that consist of:
- Herbivores are organisms that eat plants. The tropic level occupies level II and level I as consumers.
- Carnivores are organisms that eat the flesh of other living things. Tropic levels occupy level III and level II as consumers.
- Omnivores are organisms that eat everything like meat and plants. The tropic level occupies level II or II and level I or II as consumers
- Decomposers are micro-organisms that act as decomposers of organic matter from the remains of animals or plants. Like cellulose or chitin, changing substances becomes simpler. Examples of decomposers are bacteria and fungi.
- Parasites are organisms that live outside of the host's body. An example of a parasite is a louse that exists and lives on the human head.
- Detritivores are living organisms by eating bits of living things that have died. Examples of detrivores are termites, worms, and millipedes.
Biotic Components Based on Roles and Functions
Based on the function and role of biotic, it is divided into 3, namely:
a. Producer
Producers are living things whose role is to process inorganic substances into organic substances which are then used to make their own food by photosynthesis.
b. Consumer
Consumers are living things that depend on other organisms because they cannot produce their own food.
c. Decomposer
Decomposers are living things that can decompose inorganic materials into organic materials which can then be used by producers.
