A Brief History of Wali Songo
The arrival of Islam on the island of Java was initially brought by traders from Malacca. However, the distribution is carried out by the trustees. Wali is a broadcaster of Islam in Java. Sunan Ampel was born in Campa, Aceh in 1401 AD with his real name Raden Rahmat. He is the son of Maulana Malik Ibrahim. Sunan Ampel started his activities by establishing the Ampel Denta Islamic Boarding School so that he was also known as a boarding school builder in East Java.
At the pesantren, he educates and guides Muslim youths to become preachers. Among them are Raden Paku, Raden Patah, Raden Makhdum Ibrahim, Maulana Ishak and Syarifudin. Sunan Ampel was the person who appointed Raden Patah as the first sultan of Demak who had the greatest merit in placing the political role of Muslims in the archipelago. Sunan Ampel died in Surabaya in 1481 AD and was buried in Ampel.
3. Sunan Bonang (Raden Maulana Makhdum Ibrahim)
Born in Surabaya in 1465 AD. He is the son of Raden Rahmat, the grandson of Sunan Gresik, and the cousin of Sunan Kalijaga. Sunan Bonang is considered the "creator of the first piece of music". In spreading Islam, he always adapted himself to the culture of the Javanese people, who were very fond of wayang and gamelan music. He concentrated his preaching in Tuban. In his preaching activities, he replaced the names of gods with the names of angels. 4. Sunan Giri (Raden Paku/ Prabu Satmata/ Sultan Abdul Fakih)
Born in the mid-15th century with the real name Raden Paku. He is the son of Maulana Ishak and is known as Raden Ainul Yaqin. Sunan Giri started his da'wah activities in the Giri area and its surroundings by establishing a pesantren with the name "Sunan Giri Islamic Boarding School". He sent educated preachers to various areas outside Java, such as in Madura, Ternate, Tedore and Kangean.
Not only that, he is also known as an educator who has a democratic spirit. He educates children with various games with a religious spirit such as jelungan, jor gula, cublak-cublak, suweng, drooling which are still remembered today. Sunan Giri died and was buried in Giri, Gresik in 1506 AD.
5. Sunan Drajat (Raden Kosim/ Syarifuddin Masih Munat/ Sunan Sedayu)
Born in Ampel, Surabaya in 1407 with the real name Raden Qosim or Syarifuddin. He is the son of Sunan Ampel.
