River Flow Patterns: Definition, Types and Forms
River Flow Patterns: Definition, Types and Forms – Is that a river flow pattern?, On this occasion About the knowledge.co.id will discuss it and of course other things that also cover it. Let's look at the discussion together in the article below to better understand it.
River Flow Patterns: Definition, Types and Forms
River is a water flow system that occurs naturally on the surface of the earth which forms a flow pattern and its water sources can come from groundwater, rainwater, and glacier water.
River is a stream of water on the surface of the earth that extends from upstream to downstream. In accordance with natural laws, rivers always flow from high areas to lower areas. However, rivers are not always straight, there are certain flow patterns that exist in rivers.
These different flow patterns are of course caused by different interactions with the surrounding environment. Therefore, it is important for us to know where and how each of these flow patterns was formed. The following are some of the river flow patterns that we often encounter
Rivers do not always occur above ground level, but are also formed underground or can be called underground rivers.
Types of River Flow Patterns
The river flow pattern is a collection of rivers that have a shape that describes the profile and genetic conditions of the river.
The following are various types of river flow patterns:
Radial Flow Pattern
The radial flow pattern (centrifugal) is a river flow pattern whose shape spreads from a certain elevation point.
In general, the type of river that has a centrifugal radial pattern is usually found in the mountains where the water flow spreads towards the slopes.
Dentritis pattern
The dendritic pattern, also known as the dendritic pattern, is a flow pattern in which the river branches resemble leaf veins.
This type of flow pattern is controlled by a homogeneous lithology which makes a river with a dendritic pattern have many tributaries.
The characteristics of the Dentritis river are that its tributaries empty into the main river irregularly.
This pattern occurs in areas where there is no structural influence. This pattern is often found in horizontal (horizontal) rocks.
Rectangular Flow Pattern
The rectangular flow pattern is a flow pattern that is generally found in areas that have igneous rocks.
The shape of a river with a rectangular flow pattern is usually straight following the fault which is marked by the shape of the river being perpendicular.
The characteristics of a river with a rectangular pattern is that the main river and its tributaries turn at an angle of 90°.
Annular Pattern
The annular flow pattern is a variation of the radial flow pattern of a river. On the whole this pattern almost forms a ring.
This type of flow pattern occurs in domes that have undergone further incision and are surrounded by layers alternating between hard and soft.
Pinnate pattern
The pinnate flow pattern is a flow pattern in which the river water forms an acute angle with the main river.
Usually rivers with this pattern show great steepness of the slopes.
Centripetal Pattern
The centripetal pattern has a shape that is opposite to the centrifugal pattern, where in this flow pattern it has a concentric shape.
This river pattern can develop into an annular pattern and give rise to obsequent rivers, parallel subsequent rivers and sequential rivers.
Trellis pattern
The trellis pattern is a river that shows a parallel position.
The tributaries in this pattern join perpendicularly to parallel rivers. This pattern occurs in areas with folded structures.
The pattern of the trellis flow passes through the valley and then joins the main channel and finally together towards the river mouth.
Parallel Pattern
A parallel flow pattern is a pattern where the flow pattern is in an area that has a very steep slope.
This flow pattern is usually found in young coastal areas with original slopes that slope towards the sea.
This is a brief explanation of river flow patterns, I hope the information above makes you understand this material better.
River Shape
The following are 12 forms of flow and their explanations:
- Lateral Consequent Rivers, namely rivers whose flow leads down the original slopes on the surface of the earth, such as domes, blocks, mountains or newly raised land.
- Longitudinal Consequent River, namely a river whose flow is parallel to the anticlinal or the crest of the mountain wave.
- A subsekwen river is a river that is formed in a lateral consequent river that has eroded backwards to the top of its slopes. This river will experience sideways erosion and widen the valley so that a new stream appears following the direction of the fault.
- Superimposed river, which is a river that flows in a flat layer of sediment that covers the rock layer beneath it. If rejuvenation occurs, the river will erode the overburden and cut the initial rock formations, so that the flow does not match the rock structure.
- Antecedent River, namely a river whose direction of flow is fixed because it offsets the uplift that occurs. This river is only formed when the transport runs slowly.
- Resekuen River is a river whose flow is down the slope of the fault or dip slope. Its flow is in the direction of the lateral resekwen river and can generally be formed from the subsekwen river flow.
- Obsekwen River, namely a river whose flow descends from the surface of the fault and opposes the dip of the fault formations.
- Insekwen River, which is a river whose flow is formed without any real cause. This river flows without following the layers of rock. The flow is non-stop and follows the dendritic flow pattern.
- A Reserve River is a river that is unable to maintain its course against uplift, so it can change direction and adjust accordingly.
- Composite River, which is a river that flows from areas with different geological structures. An example is the big rivers in Indonesia.
- The Anaklinal River is a river that flows on the surface at a slow speed, uplifted and the direction of uplift is opposite to the current of the river.
- Compound rivers are rivers that carry water from areas that have opposite geomorphology.
