Main Characteristics of the Taxonomy & Life Cycle of Sporadic Kormophyta (Complete) – Previously we have discussed an article related to Main Characteristics of the Taxonomy and Life Cycle of Seed Kormophyta, well, this time we will discuss the Taxonomy and Life Cycle of Sporadic Kormophyta.

Main Characteristics of the Taxonomy & Life Cycle of Sporadic Kormophyta (Complete)

Moss and ferns have a similar structure because both have stages of alternating generations or generation (metagenesis) of the sporophyte (spore-producing) phase and the gametophyte (producing gamete or cell) phase sex). The fertilization process occurs with the help of water, the sperm approaches the ovum due to chemical stimulation in the form of glucose.

In plant taxonomy, mosses (Bryophyta) are divided into three divisions, which include:

  • Hepatophyta: group of liverworts. For example: Riccia sp, Marchantia polymorpha
  • Anthocerophyta: hornwort group. Examples: Andrea, Anthoceros
  • Bryophyta: a group of mosses. For example: Polytricum.

The fern plant group (Pteridophyta) is divided into four divisions, including:

  • Psilopsida. bare nails. For example: Psilotum nudum
  • Sphenopsida: wire nails. For example: Equisetum debile
  • Lycopsida: seed spikes. For example: Lycopodium, Sellaginella
  • Pteropsida: true ferns. For example: Adiantum, Pteris, Marsilea crenata.

To make it easier for us to understand the life cycle (metagenesis) of ferns and mosses, we just have to look at the following table:

differentiator Moss Nail
Sporophyte Phase (2n) Sporogonium (2n) Ferns (2n)
Gametophyte (n) phase Mosses (n) Prothallium (n)

All phases of the sporophyte must originate from the zygote (Zorro) and all phases of the gametophyte must originate from the spore (Suparman). The positions are always opposite, the dominant moss is the gametophyte phase and the fern is the dominant sporophyte phase.

Remember!

Gametophyte: produces gametes, must have genitals (antheridium/male and archegonium/female), and can photosynthesize.

Okay, that's all the discussion about Main Characteristics of the Taxonomy & Life Cycle of Sporadic Kormophyta (Complete) Hope it is useful. Thank you 🙂
