Which includes the meaning of energy, forms of energy and the benefits of energy for life which are discussed in full and easy to understand. For more details, please see the review below carefully.
Understanding Energy, Its Forms and Benefits For Complete Life
Let's discuss the definition of energy first carefully.
Definition of Energy
Energy is an object that can be moved by fundamental interactions that can be changed in form but can not be created or destroyed. The international unit of energy is the Joule (J).
In other words, energy is an ability to carry out an action or work (effort). Energy comes from the Greek word "ergon" which means work. In doing work we always use energy, either consciously or unconsciously, for example when we are walking we need energy. But every activity requires energy in different amounts and forms. Energy cannot be seen but its influence can be felt. Energy can change form from one form to another. For example, an iron changes form from electrical energy to heat energy.
The discoverer of energy is James Presscot Joule, so the international unit of energy is Joule (J). And another unit of energy is Calories (Cal).
The relationship between Joule and Calories is as follows:
1 Calorie = 4.2 Joule / 1 Joule = 0.24 Calorie
The relationship between the Joule and other basic international units is:
1 Joule = 1 Newton-Meter and 1 Joule = 1 kg m2 s-2
Law of Conservation of Energy
According to the law of conservation of energy, it can be concluded that:
Energy cannot be created or destroyed. Energy can only be changed from one form to another. Therefore, the total amount of energy in a system will only change if energy is entered or released
Forms of Energy
In everyday life, we use many forms of energy. These forms of energy include:
Mechanical Energy
Mechanical energy is the energy that exists in an object due to the nature of its motion. Mechanical energy is divided into two types, namely:
Potential energy Is the energy possessed by an object because of its position or position, which means when the object is still in a certain position. Various types of energy can be categorized as potential energy, because all forms of potential energy are associated with a type of force that acts on the physical state of matter. An example is when we stretch a piece of rubber, there will be a change in its physical properties due to the elastic force, this is what is called elastic potential energy. In Physics the formula for potential energy like this is:
Ep = m x g x h
With description:
Ep = Potential energy (Joule)
m = Mass (kg)
g = Gravity (m/s2)
h = Altitude (m)
Kinetic energy. Is the energy possessed by an object due to its movement or velocity. Kinetic energy can clearly be interpreted as an ability to make efforts to be able to move objects with a certain mass until they reach a certain speed. The higher the speed of an object, the greater the kinetic energy. For example, when a vehicle is moving, the faster the speed of the vehicle, the greater the kinetic energy. In physics, the kinetic energy formula is as follows:
Ek = ½ x m x v2
With Description:
Ek = Kinetic Energy (Joule)
m = Mass (kg)
v = Speed (m/s)
So, the formula for Mechanical Energy = Potential Energy + Kinetic Energy
Sound Energy
Sound energy is energy obtained from the vibration of air particles around a sound source. In fact, every time there is vibration of an object, there must be sound energy, but not all of that sound can be heard. The stronger the vibration, the greater the sound energy produced. For example, when we play the drum, the stronger the drum is hit, the greater the vibration, and the greater the sound produced.
Light Energy
Light energy is the energy obtained by an electromagnetic wave. An example is when the light of a lamp, the farther it is from us or from the light source, the less the effect of the light on vision.
Heat Energy (Heat)
Heat energy is energy that occurs because there is internal movement of the constituent particles in an object. Thermal energy is energy that moves from a particle with a higher temperature to a particle with a lower temperature. For example, when we heat water over a fire, the heat from the fire will transfer to the water, causing the water to boil.
Nuclear energy
Nuclear energy is energy obtained from the reaction of the nucleus by radioactive materials. This energy is produced by splitting atomic nuclei or by two fused atomic nuclei. The splitting or unification of the atomic nucleus will produce a very large energy due to changes in the atomic nucleus. An example is the use of nuclear bombs.
Chemical Energy
Chemical energy is energy obtained due to chemical interactions from chemical reactions that occur. An example is when food that enters the body has chemical elements and will experience chemical reactions so that they can be utilized by the body, so that when chemical reactions also occur energy chemistry.
Benefits of Energy in Everyday Life
Some energy is used in everyday life, here are some examples of energy utilization by changing it from one form to another:
- Electrical energy becomes heat energy when using an iron to rub clothes.
- Chemical energy becomes motion energy (mechanical) in the food we eat is processed by chemical reactions to become a source of energy in activities.
- Electrical energy is converted into sound energy by using a bell that produces sound
- Motion energy (mechanical) becomes heat energy in the friction of two objects by continuously producing heat
- Electrical energy becomes motion (mechanical) energy when using a fan
- Light energy becomes chemical energy in the utilization of sunlight.
