Patience is: Understanding in Islam and its arguments
Patience is: Understanding in Islam and its argumentsPatience is a word that is often spoken verbally. People who have patient nature will get peace, tranquility and broad-mindedness. Patience is indeed not an easy matter that can be applied in everyday life, but it is also not impossible for someone to have a patient nature.
Islam views this patient trait as one of the commendable qualities that must be possessed by those who believe in Allah SWT. An impatient person cannot be said to be a believer. For more details, the following will discuss the meaning of patience in Islam and the arguments related to patience.
Patience is: Understanding in Islam and its arguments
Let's discuss the meaning of patience first carefully.
Understanding Patience in Islam
In Arabic the word comes from the word sobaro yasbiru, which means to hold back. Meanwhile, in terms, patience is to refrain from all kinds of difficulties, sadness or restraint when facing everything that is disliked and hated.
The broader understanding of patience is to refrain from getting angry easily, complaining, hating, holding grudges, and don't give up easily, train yourself in obedience and fortify yourself so you don't commit heinous acts and immorality.
In Islam, there are three forms of patience, namely patience in obedience, patience in the face of calamity, and patient in avoiding immoral acts, here is an explanation of the various forms of patience the.
Patience in obedience
When carrying out obedience and orders from Allah SWT, it will feel heavy, so it requires a lot of patience. For example, such as being patient in refraining from being lazy in order to remain istiqomah in carrying out the obligations of praying on time, carrying out pray always in congregation, be patient in carrying out fasting by keeping your mouth, heart and mind, patient in studying knowledge and so on etc.
Patience in the face of trials and calamities
A believer should be patient in undergoing all the tests, trials and calamities that come to him. Believe that Allah will not test His servants who are beyond their limits. If you get a trial, then you need to be patient and sincere with what is happening. For verily Allah is always with those who are patient.
Patience in disobedience
Everything that is unlawful and prohibited by Allah SWT should be better avoided. All forms of immorality are enjoyable, but Allah forbids them so that those who believe required to guard and refrain from all forms of immorality and things that are prohibited by Allah SWT.
Proof of Patience
Here are some verses of the Qur'an related to patience, the following are among them:
Yaa ayyuhaa alladziina aamanuu ista'iinuu bialshshabri waalshshalaati inna allaaha ma'a alshshaabiriina.
Meaning: "O you who believe, make patience and prayer as your helpers, verily Allah is with those who are patient". (QS. Al-Baqarah: 153)
Was-sabirina fil-ba`sa`i wad-darra`i wa hinal-ba`s, ula`ikallaznna sadaqu, wa ula`ika humul-muttaqun
Meaning: "And those who are patient in adversity, suffering and in war. They are the true (faith); and they are the pious ones". (QS. Al-Baqarah: 177)
Wa`mur ahlaka bis-salat wastabir ‘alaiha, la nas`aluka rizqa, nahnu narzuquk, wal-‘aqibatu lit-taqwa
Meaning: "And instruct your family to establish prayer and be patient in doing it. We do not ask you for sustenance, We are the ones who give you sustenance. And the (good) result is for those who are pious.” (QS. Thoha: 132)
innama yuwaffas-sabiruna ajrahum bigairi hisab
Meaning: "Verily, only those who are patient are sufficient for their reward without limit". (QS. Az-Zumar: 10)
As for hadith about patience include the following:
Meaning: "Whoever is patient will be patient with Allah, and there is no gift from Allah that is the most extensive and better than patience". (HR. Bukhari, Muslim, Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi, Nasa'i, Abu Dawud, Malik and Ad-Darimi)
Meaning: "It is amazing that all the affairs of a believer, in fact all his affairs are very good for him, and that does not belong to anyone except those who believe. If he gets pleasure he is grateful, then that is very good and when he is afflicted with trouble he is patient, then that is very good for him. (HR. Muslim)
Meaning: "There are three kinds of patience, namely patience in adversity, patience in obedience, and patience in avoiding evil. Whoever is patient in a calamity so that it is returned in good condition for what has befallen him (he is pleased with bala' that He gave), then Allah will write for him 300 degrees, each degree is the distance between the sky and the sky earth. And whoever is patient in carrying out obedience, Allah will write 600 degrees, every two degrees the distance between the sky of the world and Sidratul Muntaka. And whoever is patient in staying away from immorality, Allah will write for him 900 degrees, the distance of two degrees is like the Throne twice. (HR. Abu Dunya and Abu Shaykh)
Benefits of Patience
1. Gives Calm to the Body and Mind
Patience can make the body and mind much calmer. You won't be burdened with the targets you want to achieve, and you won't get stressed easily because you always force yourself to move fast.
2. Enjoying the Process
Being rushed can lead you to keep trying and only see the target. Take a deep breath and calm down because every process is worth enjoying. And not only that, there are many new things that you can get from the process itself that you would never feel if you were under pressure and in a hurry.
3. Balancing Tempo with Environment
Not only are you affected by impatience, the environment around you is also feeling it. People around you can even be tired because they see you rushing without pause. Therefore, with patience, the balance with the environment will be maintained properly.
4. Peaceful Life
A graduate dean at Pace University, New York City named Daniel Baugher argues that this impatience can lead to anxiety, resentment, and hostility. If you cultivate patience, then you will also feel your life becomes more peaceful because everything you do flows by itself.
5. Keep You from Many Diseases
itThat's right! Being patient can actually keep us away from various deadly diseases, such as heart disease and high blood pressure. According to research published by the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2003, states that people who do not maintain patience at the age of 18-30 years, will most likely experience high blood pressure later day.
That's a brief explanation about Patience is: Understanding in Islam and Its Evidence (Qur'an and Hadith), I hope this is useful and provides new knowledge for those who don't know it yet. Thank You.
