Morning Prayer

Morning is the time for everyone to start a series of activities in one day. When starting the day it is very appropriate to pray before seeking the sustenance of Allah SWT in order to get blessings with a high sense of enthusiasm. Therefore, every Muslim is encouraged and taught to get up early in the morning and then recite the sunnah prayer before doing the morning prayer and then continue with dhikr.

Hadith Praying in the Morning

There are several guidelines that suggest we pray in the morning:

Allah SWT says in QS Ali Imron verse 121:

وَإِذْ غَدَوْتَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ تُبَوِّئُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مَقَاعِدَ لِلْقِتَالِ وَاللّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

"And remember, when you leave in the morning from your family's house you will place the believers in several places to fight." (QS Ali Imran: 121)

Rasulullah SAW said:

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لأُمَّتِى فِى بُكُورِهَا

"O Allah, bless my people in the morning."

Ibnul Qayyim, he said:

"The morning for a person is like youth and the end of the day is like old age."

Allah SWT says in QS Al-Baqarah verse 186:

وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيبٌ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ الدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا لِي وَلْيُؤْمِنُوا بِي لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْشُدُونَ

"And when My servants ask you about Me, then (answer), that I am near. I will grant the request of the one who prays when he asks Me. So let them fulfill all My commandments, and let them believe in Me, that they may always be in the truth." (QS Al Baqarah: 186)

Short Morning Prayers

Today's morning prayer is the prayer that the Messenger of Allah says every morning. This prayer was narrated by Abu Hurairah RA quoted by Imam An-Namawi.

اَللَّهُمَّ بِكَ أَصْبَحْنَا وَبِكَ أَمْسَيْنَا، وَبِكَ نَحْيَا، وَبِكَ نَمُوْتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ النُّشُوْرُ

“Allāhummā bika àshbàhnà, wa bika àmsàina, wa bika nahyà, wa bika nàmutu, wa ilaikàn nusyuru.”

It means :

“O Allah, with You I spend the morning, with You I spend the evening, with You I live, with You I die. Only to You do I return.” (Reported by Abu Dawud, At-Turmudzi, Ibn Majah).

Long Morning Prayers

In addition to the short morning prayer above, there is a longer morning prayer according to the Sunnah of the Prophet. This prayer was narrated by the Companion of Ibn Mas'ud quoted by Imam An-Namawi.

أَصْبَحْنَا وَأَصْبَحَ الملْكُ للهِ، وَالحَمْدُ للهِ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهُ لَهُ الملْكُ وَلَهُ الحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ، رَبِّ أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ مَا فِي هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ وَخَيْرَ مَا بَعْدَهَا وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا فِي هَذِهِ اللَيْلَةِ وَشَرِّ مَا بَعْدَهَا، رَبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الكَسْلِ وَسُوْءِ الكِبَرِ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ فِي النَّارِ وَعَذَابٍ فِي القَبْرِ

“Asbahnā wa ashbahal mulku lillāhi wal hamdu lillāhi, la ilaha illallàhu wahdahū la syarīka lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa 'alà kulli syai'in qadir.

Rabbi, as'aluka khaira mà fī hadzihil lailata wa khaira mà ba'dahà, wa a'ūdzu bika min syarri mà fī hadzihil lailata wa khaira mà ba'dahà.

Rabbi, a'ūdzu bika minal kasli wa sū'il kibari. A'ūdzu bika min 'adzābin fin nāri wa 'adzābin dil qabri."

It means :

“We and Your power spend the morning. Praise be to You. There is no god but Allah the Almighty, there is no partner for Him. To Him be all power and praise. Allah is in control of all things.

My Lord, I ask You for goodness this night and the night after. I seek Your protection against the evils of this night and the night after.

My God, I ask for Your protection from the laziness and indolence of old age. I ask for Your protection from the torment of hell and the torment of the grave," (Imam An-Nawawi, Al-Adzkar).

Morning Prayer After Doing the Fajr Prayer

Reading the Morning Prayer After Doing the Fajr Prayer:

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً

"Allahumma ìnnì as aluka 'ìlman naafì'aa wa rìzqan toyyìbaa wa 'amalan mutaqabbalaa."

It means :

"O Allah, I really ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, good sustenance (halal) and deeds that are accepted." (Reported by Ibn As – Sunni).

Morning Prayer Reading the Verse of the Chair (Al – Baqarah verse 255)

The verse of the chair is a verse from the letter Al-Baqarah verse 255 which has its own extraordinary virtues and miracles, namely:

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِنْدَهُ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلَّا بِمَا شَاءَ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَلَا يَئُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ

Allaahu laa ilaaha illaa huwal hayyul qoyyuum, laa ta'khudzuhuu sinatuw walaa naum. Lahuu maa fissamaawaati wa maa fil ardli man dzal ladzii yasyfa'u 'indahuu illaa biidznih, ya'lamu maa baina aidiihim wamaa kholfahum wa laa yuhiithuuna bisyai'im min 'ilmihii illaa bimaa syaa' wasi'a Kursiyyuhus samaawaati wal ardlo walaa ya'uuduhuu hifdhuhumaa wahuwal 'aliyyul 'adhiim.

It means :

“O Allah, there is no God who has the right to be worshiped except Allah SWT, who lives eternally and continuously takes care of all of His creatures. Allah is not sleepy and Allah does not sleep. To Him belongs what is in the heavens and on earth.

No one can intercede with Allah without His permission. Allah knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they know nothing from Allah's knowledge except what He wills.

Allah's chair covers the heavens and the earth. And Allah does not find it hard to care for both of them, and Allah is Most High, Most Great."

The Virtue and Miracle of Ayat Kursi

• The chair verse is the leader of the other verses of the Qur'an.
• Seat verse is the most sublime verse.
• Ayat Kursi is the key to entering heaven, the key to getting a mate, and the key to getting a lot of fortune, abundance, and of course blessings.
• Seat verses can protect us from satan, jinn and witchcraft.
• Whoever reads the verse of the chair first before praying, the prayer he prays will soon be answered.
• If we read verses of chair in the morning then we will be protected until the evening. And if we recite verses of chair in the evening then we will be protected until morning.

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Bismillahirrahmaanirrahim (i).

"In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful."

قُلۡ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ

Qul Huwallahu Ahad (un).

Say: "He is Allah, the One and Only."

ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ

Allahu sh-shamad (u).

"Allah is the Lord on whom all things depend."

لَمۡ يَلِدۡ وَلَمۡ يُولَدۡ

Lam yalid walam yuulad.

"He was neither begotten nor begotten,"

وَلَمۡ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدُۢ

Wa lam Yakun Lahu kufuwan ahad (u).

"And there is no one equal to Him."

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Bismillahirrahmaanirrahim (i).

قُلۡ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلۡفَلَقِ

Qul A'uudzu birabbil falaq (i).

Say: "I take refuge in the Lord of the dawn,"

مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

Min syarri maa khalaq (a).

"from the evil of His creatures,"

وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ

Wa min syarri ghaasiqin idzaa waqab (a).

"and from the evil of the night when it is pitch dark,"

وَمِن شَرِّ ٱلنَّفَّٰثَٰتِ فِي ٱلۡعُقَدِ

Wa min syarrin naffaatsaati fiil 'uqad (i).

"and from the evil of the witches who blow on knots,"

وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ

Wa min syarri haasidin idzaa hasad (a).

"and from the evil of envy when he is envious."

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Bismillahirrahmaanirrahim (i).

"In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful"

قُلۡ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلنَّاسِ

Qul A'uudzu birabbin-naas (i).

Say: "I take refuge in God who cares for and rules over people."

مَلِكِ ٱلنَّاسِ

Malikinnaa (i).

"King of humans."

إِلَٰهِ ٱلنَّاسِ

Ilaahin-naas (i).

"Human worship."

مِن شَرِّ ٱلۡوَسۡوَاسِ ٱلۡخَنَّاسِ

Min syarril waswaasil khannaas (i).

"From evil or the devil's whispers that used to hide,"

ٱلَّذِي يُوَسۡوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ ٱلنَّاسِ

Al Ladzii yuwaswisu fii shuduurin-naas (i).

"who whispers evil into the bosom of men,"

مِنَ ٱلۡجِنَّةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ

Minal jinnati wannaas (i).

"from (class of) jinn and humans."
