√ Metazoa: Definition, Classification, Characteristics and Cycles
Metazoa: Definition, Classification, Characteristics and Cycles – On this occasion, we will discuss Metazoa. Which in this discussion explains the meaning of metazoa, its classification, characteristics, and cycles briefly and clearly. For more details, please see the article About Knowledge the following.
Metazoa: Definition, Classification, Characteristics and Cycles
In general, in the kingdom Animalia it is divided into two, viz
- Vertebrata is a term for animals with backbones.
- Invertebrates, is a term for animals that do not have a backbone.
Invertebrates consist of two groups, namely protozoa and metazoa. In the article below, we will discuss the meaning of metazoa.
Definition of Metazoa
Metazoa is a multi-celled organism that is formed by specializing the work function of cells. Certain cells are specialized to form tissues, tissues form organs, and organs form organ systems. In the end, the organ systems seem to continue to compose one individual.
Metazoan Body Classification
The metazoa are grouped again based on the symmetry of their bodies and the layers that make up their bodies. On the basis of body symmetry, the Metazoa are distinguished from Metazoa which have a bilateral body symmetry and bilateral body symmetry, asymmetry, and radial.
Bilateral Symmetry
This bilateral symmetry describes an animal which parts of its body are arranged with other parts. If taken from the line crossing through the mouth to the anus, the bilateral symmetry animal will get equal parts between the left and right sides. Animals with bilateral symmetry also have;
- The apex (oral) and base (aboral)
- Has an upper (dorsal) and lower (ventral) side
- The side of the head (anterior) and also the side of the tail (posterior),
- Side (lateral) side.
Radial Symmetry
In this radial symmetry describes animals that have body parts arranged in a circle (round). If taken from the line through the mouth, it will produce the same parts. Animals with radial symmetry only have apex (oral side) and bottom (aboral side).
Animals belonging to the radial symmetry group are Porifera, Cnidaria and Echinodermata. Animals that have radial symmetry are also called radiata.
Symmetry Asymmetry
Symmetry asymmetry is a term for animals that do not have a fixed or the same (irregular) body division.
Characteristics of Metazoa (Animals)
The following are the characteristics of Metazoa (Animals), namely:
- Absence of cell wall. Plants have cell walls and also lack the functions that animal cells have.
- Metazoans are multicellular which means their bodies consist of more than one cell.
- They are able to move as well as in some types of animals they use locomotion.
- Most reproduce sexually.
- Everything that is heterotrophic and depends on other organisms is a food source.
- Metazoans also have different tissues that are responsible for different actions in the body such as nervous and muscle tissue.
- One exception is sponges because they do not have specialized cells and rely on water currents to carry out processes within their cells.
Metazoan Life Cycle
Animals have a diploid life cycle, in which the organism is diploid and the only haploid cell is the gamete. There are male and female organisms, in which the male provides the sperm that fertilizes the eggs of the female. The fertilized egg is called a zygote, and it will develop into a multicellular embryo which will eventually become a new diploid organism.
While this general scheme applies to many animals, there are many exceptions. Some of the insect animals, especially social insects such as bees, may produce haploid offspring. And animals like Hydra can reproduce by asexual budding. There is also a great deal of variation among organisms which follow a general scheme.
For example, both sexes can be found in the same organism. So that each organism can produce sperm and egg cells (a condition known as hermaphroditism). The zygote can develop inside the female's body (for example in mammals), if outside the female's body (for example in frogs) or also inside the male's body (for example in certain fish).
Heterotrophic Metazoa
One feature common to all animals is their ecological role as consumers; they cannot produce their own food. So that animals have to eat other organisms, or from other organisms to be able to get food.
There are three basic categories of consumers, including:
predators
These predators eat other organisms, or also eat parts of other organisms. Included in carnivores such as wolves, which eat other animals. As well as herbivores like cows, which eat plants.
Parasite
Parasites live on or in another organism (the host), and obtain food from the host without killing or ingesting it. These organisms range from fleas to tapeworms and may be relatively harmless or cause only a disease.
Detritivore
Detritivores eat dead organisms, or organic nutrients in soil or water. These organisms are very important to a food web. Because they recycle nutrients that are barely available. Earthworms and vultures are both examples of detrivores.
Many of the animals specialize in one role, namely as a consumer. The animal may eat only one food or eat only one type of food.
For example, certain fruit-eating bats only eat fruit. These specialists often play important roles in the life of the species with which they interact. In the case of fruit bats, these bats are very important in dispersal of the seeds contained in fruits.
That's the explanation about it Metazoa: Definition, Classification, Characteristics and Cycles. hopefully can provide benefits and add to your insight. Thank You.
