Dimensions of Momentum: Definition, Formulas, Principal Quantities and Example Problems
In physics, momentum is the product of mass and velocity. Momentum is symbolized by P. Momentum is a vector quantity because it is strongly influenced by the direction of its velocity.
As you know, mass is a scalar quantity, while velocity is a vector quantity. The result of multiplying a vector quantity by a scalar quantity produces a vector quantity. That is why momentum is a vector quantity.
Momentum Dimension Formula
In classical mechanics, momentum (which can be denoted by the letter P) can be interpreted as a product of mass and velocity, so that a vector is produced.
Momentum on an object or with the symbol (P) by having a mass. It is denoted by the letter m and moves with speed v so that it can mean, among others:
p = m. v
p = momentum (Kg m/s)
m = object mass (Kg)
v = object speed (m/s)
