Shaykh Muhammad Abduh

Explaining the science of kalam as a science that discusses the existence of Allah, the obligatory attributes that exist for Him, the attributes of jaiz that are attributed to Him, from attributes that do not exist for Him, also discusses Allah's messengers to determine the truth treatises, what must be in him, jaiz things that are connected to them, and forbidden things that are connected to them themselves.

Ibn Kholdun

Explaining the science of kalam as a science that contains reasons to defend the beliefs of faith with uses the arguments of the mind and contains rebuttals against people who deviate from the beliefs of the Salaf and Sunnah expert. According to him, the science of kalam is based on the pillars of faith that every Muslim must believe in in order to obtain safety in this world and the hereafter. The science of kalam is often also called the science of monotheism or ushuludin. The subject matter of the science of monotheism focuses on the oneness of Allah, both His essence and oneness. The science of kalam is also called the Science of Aqidah or the Science of Ushuludin. This is because a lot of talk about issues related to beliefs and the basics of religious teachings. For Christians, the science of kalam is referred to as theology.

The Scope of Kalam Science

The scope of discussion of the science of kalam includes several things, namely:

  • Things related to Allah SWT.
  • Matters related to Allah's messenger as a link or carrier of messages to humans, such as: angels, prophets and apostles and several holy books. Matters related to the life to come, such as the day of resurrection, the torment of the grave, heaven and hell.

According to Hasan Al-Banna, the scope of discussion of the science of kalam includes:

  • Ilahiyat, namely the study of everything related to Allah, such as the form of Allah, the names of Allah, the attributes of Allah, the deeds of Allah etc.
  • Nubuwat, namely the study of everything related to prophets and apostles including discussion of Allah's books, miracles, karomah etc.
  • Ruhaniyat, namely the study of everything related to the metaphysical realm, such as angels, jinn, devils, devils etc.
  • Sam'iyat, namely the study of everything that can only be known through sam'i (dalil naqli or in the form of the Qur'an and Sunnah) such as the afterlife, the hereafter, the punishment of the grave, heaven and hell etc.
