Dhuha Prayer: Intentions, Procedures and Prayers After Prayer
Duha prayer is a sunnah prayer that is done at Duha time, which is the beginning of noon. Duha prayer has many virtues and great rewards from Allah Ta'ala. The time of implementation is when the sun rises as high as a spear until before zawal, when the sun is perpendicular. Or around eight in the morning to eleven.
The Sunnah Dhuha prayer is done or done after the Subuh prayer. The Fajr prayer is performed before the sun rises or before dawn. While the Dhuha prayer is done after dawn or after the sun rises until the time of Dhuhur comes.
Duha sunnah prayer is one of the sunnah prayer services that is highly recommended by the Prophet. This sunnah prayer is recommended to be performed by Muslims during Duha time.
It is called the Dhuha prayer because it is sunnah prayer that is performed during Dhuha. Dhuha time is the time when the sun begins to rise approximately 7 cubits from sunrise (around 07:00 am) to noon time (around 12:00 pm).
The number of Duha prayer cycles
Rasulullah said:
َمَنْ صَلَّى الضُّحٰى اِثْنَتٰى عَشَرَةَ رَكْعَةً بَنَى اللهُ لَهُ قَصْرًا فِى الْجَنَّةِ
It means:
"Whoever performs the Duha prayer twelve cycles, Allah will make for him a palace in heaven" (H.R. Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah).
From the above hadith it is explained that the number of cycles of Duha prayer is 12 cycles. However, the 12 cycles of cycles are the maximum number of cycles of Duha prayer.
These 12 cycles in the process can be done with every 2 cycles ending with greetings. It can also be done directly in 4 cycles with the initial tasyahud in the second cycle, and the final tasyahud in the fourth cycle and then ending with greetings.
The minimum number of cycles of sunnah Dhuha prayer is 2 cycles and the maximum is 12 cycles.
Dhuha prayer intention
Like other sunnah prayers, everything starts with intention. Likewise when you want to do the Dhuha sunnah prayer. Before doing it, you must read the intention of the Dhuha prayer in your heart or in a low voice.
Reading the intention of the Dhuha Prayer
اُصَلِّى سُنَّةَ الضَّحٰى رَكْعَتَيْنِ مُسْتَقْبِلَ الْقِبْلَةِ اَدَاءً ِللهِ تَعَالَى
"Ushollii Sunnatadh Dhuha Rok'ataini Mustaqbilal Qiblati Adaa'an Lillaahi Ta'aalaa."
Meaning :
"I intend to pray the Dhuha sunnah prayer two rak'ahs facing the Qibla at this time because of Allah Ta'ala"
Procedure for Dhuha Prayer
The procedure for the Dhuha prayer or the pillars of the Dhuha prayer is the same as the fardhu prayer or other sunnah prayers of 2 cycles. The following is the procedure for praying Dhuha which consists of 2 cycles.

- Reading the Duha Prayer Intentions
- Read the Takbiratul Ihram, followed by an iftitah prayer
- Read Surah Al Fatihah
- Read a letter from the Qur'an, preferably Surah Asy-Syamsi
- Do Ruku with tumakminah
- Doing Itidal
- Make the first prostration
- Sit between two prostrations
- Make the second prostration
- Stand up again to perform the second cycle

- Read Surah Al Fatihah
- Read a letter from the Qur'an, preferably Surah Ad Dhuha
- Do Ruku
- Doing Itidal
- Make the first prostration
- Sit between two prostrations

- Sit Tahiyat end
- Say greetings
In essence, the procedure for the Dhuha prayer or the pillars of the Dhuha prayer is the same as the procedure for the obligatory prayer or the pillars of the obligatory 2 cycles of prayer as well as other readings. The only difference is the intention.
For surah reading after reading surah Al Fatihah, the scholars agreed to recommend reading Surah Asy-Syamsi in the first rak'ah and Surah Ad Dhuha in the second cycle.
But there are also those who are of the opinion that reading surah Ad Dhuha in the first cycle and surah Al Ikhlas in the second cycle. Even so, there are no standard rules for reading what short surahs are, because they adjust to rote for those who do them.
Dhuha Prayer Prayer
After completing the Dhuha prayer, it is sunnah to read the prayer taught by the Prophet.
The prayer after the Dhuha prayer is as follows.
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنَّ الضُّحَآءَ ضُحَاءُكَ وَالْبَهَاءَ بَهَاءُكَ وَالْجَمَالَ جَمَالُكَ وَالْقُوَّةَ قُوَّتُكَ وَالْقُدْرَةَ قُدْرَتُكَ وَالْعِصْمَةَ عِصْمَتُكَ
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنْ كَانَ رِزْقِى فِى السَّمَآءِ فَأَنْزِلْهُ وَاِنْ كَانَ فِى اْلاَرْضِ فَأَخْرِجْهُ وَاِنْ كَانَ مُعَسَّرًا فَيَسِّرْهُ وَاِنْ كَانَ حَرَامًا فَطَهِّرْهُ وَاِنْ كَانَ بَعِيْدًا فَقَرِّبْهُ بِحَقِّ ضُحَاءِكَ وَبَهَاءِكَ وَجَمَالِكَ وَقُوَّتِكَ وَقُدْرَتِكَ آتِنِىْ مَآاَتَيْتَ عِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِيْنَ
"Allahumma innad-duhaa'a duhaa'uka wal bahaa'a bahaa'auka wal-jamaala jamaaluka wal-quwwata quwwatuka wal-qudrota qudratuka wal-'ismata 'ismatuka."
"Allaahumma in kaana rizqii fis-samaa'i fa anzilhu, wa in kaana fil-ardi fa akhrijhu, wa in kaana mu'assiran fa yassirhu, wa in kaana haraaman fa tahhirhu wa in kaana ba'iidan fa qarribhu bi haqqi duhaa'ika wa bahaa'ika wa jamaalika wa quwwatika wa qudratika, aatinii maa aataita 'ibaadakash-saliheen."
Meaning :
"O Allah, indeed the time of Dhuha is the time of Your Dhuha, majesty is Your majesty, beauty is Your beauty, strength is Your strength, guard is Your guard"
"O Allah, if my sustenance is above the sky then send it down, if it is in the earth then take it out, if it is difficult make it easy, if it is unlawful purify it, when it is far away, bring it closer to the truth of Your dhuha, Your power (O my Lord), bring to me what You bring to Your servants pious one"
Benefits of Dhuha Prayer
The benefit of the Dhuha prayer felt by Muslims who do it is that it can facilitate their sustenance. For this reason, it is prioritized to read the letters in prayer which can bring good fortune. Here are some of the benefits of Dhuha prayer.
- Duha prayer as an eraser of sins
In accordance with the words of Raulullah:
“Whoever performs the Duha prayer and is able to keep it at all times, Allah will forgive his sins. Even if his sins are as many as the foam in the sea.” (HR. Tirmidhi from Abu Daud Ra)
- Dhuha prayer as the will of the Prophet
From Abu Hurairah Ra said:
"My beloved Rasulullah SAW has advised me to fast three days every month, and two cycles of duha prayer, and witr prayer before going to bed." (HR. Buhkari and Muslim).
- Two cycles of Dhuha prayer instead of tasbih, tahmid and tahlil
Rasulullah said:
“Every morning there is an obligation for each joint to give alms. Every tasbih is a charity, every tahlil is a charity, every tahmid is a charity, every takbir is a charity, every recommend good alms, every person forbids bad alms and simply replaces all of that with two rak'ahs Duha prayer". (Muslim HR)
- Two duha cycles worth 360 alms
In accordance with the hadith of the Prophet:
“In the human body there are 360 bones, he is required to give alms for each of them. The Companions asked: Who is strong enough to do that, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Phlegm that is in the mosque and then covered with soil or removing a disturbance from the middle of the road means charity. Or if you can't afford it, it's enough to be replaced by doing two cycles of duha prayer." (Reported by Ahmad and Abu Dawud)
