Definition of Hormones and Their Functions (Full Discussion) – The bodies of living things have their respective functions and uses. The bodies of living things can move freely according to what they want, even though the plants that move follow the direction of sunlight.

To be able to move, substances are needed in the body to be able to run these organs smoothly. Substances that exist in the human body have many benefits for the workings of the organs in the body. These substances are called hormones. To be able to understand about hormones, it will be explained as follows:
Definition of Hormones
The general understanding of hormones is a chemical substance that is produced by certain organs of the body originating from the endocrine glands. The use of this hormone is to trigger the function of certain organs. Hormones come from the Greek "hormein" which means spur or "harmao" which means excite (arouse).
Hormones are produced by all multicellular organisms which include humans, animals and plants. Not only that, hormones can also play a role in controlling the processes of growth, reproduction, metabolism, immunity and patterns of human life.
Endocrine glands are the producers of hormones in the body. Endocrine glands have several tigers, namely the hypothalamus gland, thyroid gland, ovarian glands, adrenal glands, pancreas glands, thymus glands, ovarian glands and digestive glands.
Hormones enter the bloodstream to flow throughout the body and when they reach certain organs they will stimulate a change to occur. The changes that take place are as long as time spans such as growth and sexual maturation. But there are also hormones that have a short time, such as when something scary happens.
Hormone Function
The function of hormones in the body is very beneficial because it has the following benefits:
- Affects the metabolism of the body such as the metabolism of glucose, protein and fat.
- Can control blood pressure.
- Stimulates the formation of red blood cells in the body.
- Controls the development of sexual characteristics and the reproductive system.
- Controls the formation and release of hormones by the adrenal cortex.
- Stimulates the formation and release that comes from the thyroid gland.
- Maintaining the balance of the state of the body with the surrounding environment or homeostasis.
